Or maybe adjusting toward reality? See Real World MPG Thread… depending on the rig some there boast mileage that matches up to sticker. Many are 16-19MPG (I got this on my previous non-Pro 2006 T4R. But my Pro sucks.... 14-16MPG with 18-19mpg as best case scenario in ideal freeway conditions. And this is without serious mods... just tube steps and Yakima Aero bars really are all that would hurt factory mileage really. Personally I think even 17/21 on a TRD Pro is a pipe dream.

My guess as well. Adjusting towards reality, but if anyone calls them on it they can blame it on TSS or other things that shouldn't actually affect mpg that much.

As a side note, dealers in Northern California said they'll start getting non-TRD Pro trims early October and TRD Pro some time after that based on what they're seeing for their allocations.

I know the changes are minor, but the face of the 2020 Limited has to be the worst 4Runner front end of all time. It's like nobody cares or is paying attention?

Aren't the only differences the additional chrome trim on the sides of the Toyota logo and the plastic plate for the radar sensor? The horizontal slats, the mesh, the large chrome bar are all the same.

When the first 2014 Limited images leaked, I thought they messed it up with all the plastic "chrome." Once I saw it in person, and after awhile, it grew on me. I don't see much changing with the 2020 that would suddenly swing it to the worst of all time, but that's just me.

TBH if you are waiting for limited version, and torn on the highlander you need to just get the highlander. You obviously like the harder look of the 4runner but maybe want the conveniences and ride quality in the highlander. Plus the new one looks like it will be pretty sharp.

My wife has a 4runner, my father has a highlander. They aren't a vehicle that really should be cross shopped. And if you are it means the highlander is the right car.

Not trying to be a jerk with this comment, I honestly think you will be happier with the highlander, even if it doesn't have quite as tough a look.

he's only owned 2wds. he wasnt gonna actually use the 4runner in the first place.

just go with a rav4. they added all the bits/facelift to make it a pretend 4runner this year

There are still a lot of reasons to buy a 4Runner even if 2WD... towing, reliability, quality, prefer the driving position, like the look, don't want 3 rows (Highlander) but still want more room than entry level (Rav4) etc.

Good point. Maybe it is just a change for the Pro only.

I believe Toyota is just being a little more real world honest on its mpgs.

Don’t kid yourself I have had an unmodded 3rd gen for 9 years it averaged 17mpg. I have a 6 year old 5th gen and at best unmodded first 1.5 years averaged 17.5mpg, modded currently 15.5mpg average (not to say that during ideal highway I have averaged 20 for short stints). I have also had as bad as 12mpg ave. in a tank winter city driving.

If you are worried or have reservations about mpg’s seriously don’t buy a 4runner, you’ll drive yourself batty. 4runners have always had sh1tty mileage.

Go have a beer and relax - it's Labor Day. Your comment was spot on and I agree: If you're looking at a Highlander, that's probably the better choice... unless you tow, or unless you really want two rows instead of three. Those are legitimate reasons to buy a 2WD 4Runner over a Highlander. My comment was more directed at the guy recommending a Rav4, because that's a completely different world.

We also have 4Runners and Highlanders in the family. Have you tried towing with your Highlander? Yeah... that rear end sag is real. I've always been a big fan of the Highlander, and the new 2020 looks like a nice improvement.

I'm perfectly happy with my Limited, but thanks for checking.

It came off like you were being a little snarky to my recommendation with the highlander when I was trying to honestly guide towards a car I think might be better suited to his needs. :fencing:eep:

The 4 runner definitely tows nicer than the highlander that's for sure.

Not advocating for either vs. the other but also you can throw a ton of shit in the back of a 4runner vs. a Highlander. My first 4runner came by way of how much computer crap (boxes and boxes) I could cram in the back since the 4runner is basically a big box on wheels itself. If you live in rainy climate like me and move tech crap (which needs to stay dry) back and forth for work like I did back then a 4runner is more practical than a truck or van and you would never need to leave the pavement to realize this advantage. Happens I also frequent the woods and mountains for recreation so 4wd is must for me

Mine’s been at port since 8/20. No update on status last I checked with dealer last week - other than it’s still processing at port.

Hoping to get it mid Sept. attached are the price sheets where I had the dealer add the TRD exhaust (shows $0). Initially, the exhaust wasn’t on the order

I hid the information because it seems like there are dealers that are out there that are somewhat clueless on when the TRDP's are coming. My POC at my dealership is a friend of my cousin's. And I feel that if I left the information there, they'd just get more phone calls about pre-ordering a TRDP.

Last month, my dealer told me that they've had 3 people place orders for the TRDP and I was definitely 1st and I was getting it on their 1st allocation. They've had my deposit since January.

Regarding the VIN, I'd rather not share that. You can go in and add a vehicle to your toyota owners profile (and app) if you have the VIN. Right now, there's an option to enable/start the connected service trial and choose dealership preference. I haven't enabled any of that so I don't want anyone else trying to add my vehicle and messing with the connected services stuff.

Can't stop people from jumping to conclusions or making assumptions. I'm sure they were just trying to be helpful since I happened to mention the 2020 Highlander. And because I have a Limited. And it's a 2WD.

If car buying came down to a strictly needs-based algorithm, I'd probably be in a Corolla. Or Yaris.

Forgive my ignorance, I only seem to go through this every 7yrs or so. I'm looking to trade in my 2011 SR5 Mag Grey and the Army Green Pro model caught my attention. That being said, I'd really want to lift it a couple inches and throw on some 285 R70 17 BFG's on it.

Dealer in PDX said that it would probably void some of my warranty regarding the new "Sense Tech" something that is new. That aside, would the TRD suspension be just something I'd sell after that or would it be possible to still use it with the lift? I'm not looking for just a body lift but a full kit if possible.

Any recommendations/advice? Part of me hates to pay for the TRD stuff only to take off some of it and swap it out.

Dealers routinely modify their trucks and never once have I heard them say it voids the warranty. I might be missing something, but I'm sure you've seen them too....Check out Autotrader. Some dealers go crazy to get an extra buck. To be clear, I'm talking 4runners and Taco's, which already had the safety stuff.

For the TSS (Toyota Safety Sense) the Tacomas can do a 2-3 inch lift without any major issues. I *think* it can also be recalibrated if needed. But most with 2 inch or so suspension lifts report no problems. You can probably search tacomaworld.com a little and find some threads on that.

If you are going to do what you are going to do, and aren't set in a Pro exclusive color, I'd recommend a Trail, or the new version of the trail premium. You get all the good off road tech, but can not feel guilty for selling the stock stuff on craigslist.

Hmm, wheel arches don't appear to be blacked out at all :shrug:

Although if the valances are actually matte black instead of the shiny black like what comes on the Pro I might have to pick up a set of those instead of just painting my silver ones.

Does anyone that has ordered a 2020 that is supposed to hit the port today have an estimated delivery day to the dealership? I was told a few weeks but nothing concrete. I was just curious what others may have heard.
