2020 TRD Pro Updates - Army Green & Push Button Start

I’m fairly certain that Toyota will, someday, acknowledge the existence of 2020 4Runners and may even lift a finger to promote them (no promises on that one), but having stock on hand that buyers can’t see on your website is a marketing failure.

Let’s put this in perspective. As of a few minutes ago, there are under 200 2020 4Runners listed on Autotrader. The listings with actual photos are far less — maybe a dozen or two “gathering dust” (your words) on lots, mostly in California.

Given how many Toyota dealerships there are nationwide, it is pretty clear the 2020 model is more “unavailable” than “available.” Labeling the lack of 2020 information on their website a “marketing failure” seems to be a bit of an overstatement.

Is it possible to order a TRD premium with the JBL package?

I don't think so. Limited and TRD Pro are the only trims that get the JBL system.

I’d like to know this too. Also how is the quality of the JBL system? I’d hate to pay extra for that only to ultimately strip it and put an aftermarket system in.

I am pretty picky about audio systems and really like the JBL system in the 4Runner - it's one of the big reasons why I got the Limited. It's a strong system with regard to clarity and bass, which are the two things I look for. Nice distribution of sound with the speakers, and I play everything from hybrid orchestral music to rap and have been very happy.

I personally dislike aftermarket head units/integration, so I tend to go for the fancier stock audio option and have been very pleased with the JBL.

I test drove a 2019 ORP with KDSS and it was pretty smooth but the guy at the dealer didn’t let me drive a TRDP even though they had like 10 of them on the lot. They also said they are marking up the 2020 TRDPs by 5-10k so that was enough to send me out the door and look for another dealer.

R/E the JBL System.... it is better than the non JBL and you could very well be happy enough with never to need an upgrade... Just don't listen to a 4runner with a really nice aftermarket system in it (e.g. the O+ system I installed as my '18 non-JBL was not acceptable). When compared to a buddy with the '19 Pro JBL the O+ eclipses that easily IMHO.

R/E the KDSS - It is really nice ride but if you intend to keep the rig forever then you might be in for some hefty maintenance issues down the road as that is a closed system and if leaks or fails information I have is entire thing needs replaced. Could be wrong but no dealer will do anything other than replacing it. The Pro ride is just as good again IMHO. The dealers won't let you drive them because nobody buying a new Pro wants to see test drive miles on the ODO.

One more thing to add to the list of what the extended warranty will take care of. Some folks eschew extended warranties under the notions of “nothing ever goes wrong with Toyotas” and/or “If anything breaks just fix it, yourself”. Some people have a different perspective.

People always mention KDSS as a maintenance issue down the line, but what's the failure rate on the 4R after hundreds of thousands of miles across 10 years? Land Cruisers? Pretty sure it's a moot point, just throwing that out there. It's not like XREAS where it's guaranteed to fail sooner than later.

Only direct experience I have is with XREAS in my '06 SportED. It "leaks" at 100k then it doesn't then it does again at 170k miles and leak is minimal visual evidence with no impact on ride.... but I am told if it fails there is no fixing it but rather must be replaced as is closed system and furthermore, dealers I have spoken to have no experience doing it. Replacement XREAS is $7k right now + labor which makes it impractical vs. ripping out and standard shock replacement. I guess without direct experience in KDSS I should not comment as I have only read the same as you and do not have statistics, etc.. Having driven XREAS, KDSS (on test drives) and Pro, I can't say one is better than other but I'll take the Pro over all for straight forward setup.

Thanks [MENTION=305706]TRDORP4Runner[/MENTION] , yes O+ is short for OEM Audio + which replaces the garbage OE speakers with better speakers (half the battle), and then inserts a tuned DSP amp setup between the factory head unit and those new speakers thus completely changing the sound performance/dynamic without messing with functionality of the factory head unit. It can also add one or more subs with dedicated amps if you choose. The setup isn't cheap ($1k-$2k depending on the conf you choose) but it sounds amazing. I run mine with yet another bit of enhancement in that I have a FLAC player that I pipe through the Aux port thus bypassing the OE DA converters in favor of the superior DA from the FLAC player and the result IMHO is as close to a sound booth you can get in a rig like this... The stock JBL system in the in 4runners is better than the trashy non-jbl but does not compare to the O+. We actually replaced a JBL system in my buddy's 2019 Tundra with the O+ setup and when I pulled out the JBL sub they use in that setup I couldn't believe how cheap and minimal it is for something they call a "premium sound system". His rig sounds 1000 times better now and so my comment was so long as you don't listen to something like this, you may be happy with the JBL. Was anyone that had an late August port delivery date able to confirm if the TRDP exhaust is standard for the 2020?

I heard through the grapevine (someone that has connections at Toyota HQ USA / Product Team), that it is standard in the US for the TRDP. I am almost certain that this is 100% accurate.

Back in early August I had my dealer add the "6P TRD Pro Exhaust" option since my build didn't have it and there were some other members' TRDPs that had that on their build sheet. The exhaust option was being shown in the "Toyota Owners" app under vehicle specs as a Port Side option up until last week... But late last week, the "6P TRD Pro Exhaust" no longer shows (is listed). The only thing that shows on mine now is:

TR TRD PRO Package (Factory)

Maybe the exhaust will be like the TRD air intake, not available as OEM, but can be purchased later? I know it was shown in some of the early videos. We'll know soon enough.

There are always Cdn/US differences in the options, but zero mention of the exhaust in Canada so far. Kinda dissapointed, but of well. Guess we do get the fancy mirrors! ha ha..
