2020 TRD Pro Updates - Army Green & Push Button Start

Cement is a very desirable Pro color, but Army Green will be too. Just an example from my garage: My thought process on why I've kept our 2011 Grand Cherokee this long. It is paid for and still looks new (91K). They haven't done a major redesign of it since 2011. Yes, it's been refreshed with an 8 speed trans (mine has the 5 speed), new instrument cluster, and tweaked front and rear, but it is essentially the same vehicle to include the powertrain (ours in a 5.7L Hemi) as our 2011. I will wait until a complete redesign to replace it, which the renderings and rumors look promising for the next Grand Cherokee or maybe go for the Wagoneer. The problem for you is that no one knows much about the 6th Generation 4Runner, and you have to hedge your bets whether you will like it better than the 5th generation you have now. To me, I'd keep the Cement and wait for the 6th Generation. If you hate it, keep the Cement, if you love it, buy a 6th Generation. I've done the whole switching out new cars. Started with 2010 orange Challenger R/T Classic, went to 2010 yellow SRT-8, and ended with the goldilocks for me, a 2013 purple R/T Classic. In the end, should have kept the first one, saved a lot of money, and had the same damn car essentially. Just my .02.

Not in LA! I wish - I must have messaged at least 15 different dealers in CA and ALL wanted either 3-5k over MSRP OR for the ones who would sell for MSRP, they already had 2 or 3 deposits for their allocations. So I expanded my search and found a dealer near Salt Lake City who would sell for MSRP, which is what I am paying. No one put a deposit on it at the time so I scooped it up with a deposit. That was only 3 weeks ago too so I was lucky.

So will do a short flight over, pick it up, and drive back with the wife and also visit Bryce Canyon/Zion National Park, which was on our list to do this year anyways so it all worked out.

Nice! Congrats! Share photos of it in its natural habitat (wild/outdoors) when you get it! Would like to see how the army green will contrast with the red rocks and hoodoos

To me cement is one of the best Pro colors and should have an easy time selling. While you will get good value, you will be out of pocket to upgrade to a 2020. Maybe a good exercise to see what the used Cement Pros are going for then see how much it would be to get into a 2020 and then compare that amount to what it would cost to upgrade your suspension and stereo.

Either way you end up with an awesome Pro.

Let's not forget quicksand! I would have loved to see a 2020 TRD Pro in quicksand. Planning to get a TRD ORP in Barcelona Red as that is my favorite color overall but if I could afford the ridiculously overpriced 2020 TRD Pro in MGM, I would vinyl wrap that in matte quicksand. It's probably possible to do in Barcelona Red as well but I would also have to consider getting black accents and rims to match TRD Pro look.

I don’t know. Personally, I don’t think the army green looks good at all, and when dirty, will look even worse. Statistically, green has consistently scored at the bottom of the desirability chart for automotive colors. It just doesn’t sell. That’s why you see so few green cars on the road. You’ll see these sitting on lots for months just like the 19’s were.

I think you are right, On top of that, it's also the timing of the 2020 update news. It came out during the Chicago Auto Show which was in February. Similar to this year, the 2019 starting showing up at dealerships around September and October. That means there was only a window of 4-5 months where people would have wanted the 2019 TRD Pro in exclusive color.

Based off my intuition, I feel like 2019 will probably a lower sale year for the 4runner but for 2020, with the updates, I feel like the sale numbers will be higher.

Additionally, I see more of 2015-2018 TRD Pros than I see 2019 (signature roof basket and red TRD stamp skid plate) around my area.

I live in San Diego and have a stupid question. Are all 4runners sold in all states 50 state certified to meet California standards?

I never thought of buying one in Utah, Arizona, etc.

I bought my '18 Pro in Tempe, AZ. The only hassle registering it in CA is that a smog check is required (ON A NEW CAR!!) as is a vehicle inspection.

Also, complete registration within 20 days or you will be charged a penalty.

So basically: Smog it and spend a day at the DMV.

If I did it again, I would:

1) Make an appt at DMV.

2) Get the vehicle inspection completed in advance (grab a form inside, go outside for inspection)

3) Get it smogged.

4) Bring smog and completed inspection on your appt date.

Go easy on me for this one... but interested in some genuine t4r feedback.

I have very sweet Cement Pro, nearly stock except for the sliders and rack. I love the ride, and the suspension has been great on and off-road.

My wife’s white SR5 is over 4” taller with 285’s and the Icon suspension. When we add the C4 rear bumper next month it will settle down the rear overland Springs and balance out the winch and C4 Lo-Pro up front. I have to admit, even though a bit harsher in the backseat, the SR5 is still a better drive than the Pro. I really like the ride height around town and the extra clearance off road is huge. (BTW - super happy with the C4 Lo-Pro and can’t wait for the rear.)

I put a deposit down on a 2020 Army Green to hedge my bets, knowing the Fox suspension is great and that I will appreciate the CarPlay given that Entune sucks. But I am not sure that I’ll actually go through with it.

So... what would “you” do... lift the Cement, or splurge for the better-equipped Army Green? And will I still want to drive my wife’s SR5 as much?

Keep the Cement and don’t look back. It will go down as one of the most desirable colors for the Pro models. I like all the colors for the Pro but in the long run the cement will be the one most people gravitate to

Cement and Quicksand were my favorites. I had owned both before and i am torn at picking my favorite.

Here is my prediction. There will be high demand for army green early but they will eventually just sit like the 19's did, especially due to a major second price increase.

Hawaii was allocated XX amount of army green pro’s. The demand exceeded the allocation so all interested buyers needed to go into a lottery.

So no army green pros will be sitting on the lot here and some will not be able to get one even though they are willing to pay.

I am in the Florida panhandle and have reached out to dealers in the panhandle and South Alabama. The Florida dealers near me have absolutely no information on the 2020's. They don't have any access to them in their system. After getting frustrated with that I decided to call some dealers in South Alabama. One dealer got back to me almost instantly with a consumer sheet with all the options and pricing on it for an Army Green Pro. I asked him if I could put a deposit down and if it was refundable. He basically said only if something is wrong with the vehicle. I proceeded to ask him, what if my financing falls through or what if I get cold feet? He said no because that vehicle is associated with my name and if I didn't purchase it, he would not get his next allocated Pro. That made no sense to me especially when he said he could sell it almost that day. I told him I am not comfortable and I appreciate his help. Has anyone ever heard of that? I hate to let it go but something just felt off.

Cement, Quicksand, whatever you got, why you gonna ditch it for army? Like I said before I'm happily staying in the Cavalry.

1. Army color is cool no doubt... and in my opinion I like the muted tones of cement, Cav (like mine) and Army vs. Inferno and Voodoo but to each her/his own. But is color really a reason to swap an already awesome pro in itself... Uhmm I would think you'd need to be pretty fickle and have a ton of cashola burning hole in your pocket. OK so then what else…

2. "Safety Tech enhancement" (not really) - IMHO tech half-ass. I'm sorry I saw 20 Pro white in person and real vids/pics of ArmyGreen and the stupid sensor on the grille bugs the shit out me. Might not offend others but to me ruins the otherwise rockin' :guitar2:visage of the heritage grille. Taco and Tundra done somewhat nicer and other brands (I.e my wife's Cherokee) do a really nice job blending it so why not Pro? Aesthetic aside, the sensor creates likely probs for those wanting hidden light bars or winch setups which will need redesigns working around I'm sure. As far as explaining my half-ass comment...Toyota, why you gonna add frontal impact lane departure adaptive cruise and NOT BSM>>??? My wife's whip has all these and of all the safety bullshit, the BSM is actually the most useful on a REGULAR basis.... I like the little blinky "!" in the side mirror telling me "Hey stupid, someone's camping in your blind spot when you're about to change lanes." Also WTF on still not having signals and puddle lamps on the side mirrors.??? (Esp when they've been on the Maple Leaf Pros since the beginning). Added nicely to mine OE-style thanks to [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION].

3. New wonderful big screen and smartphone integration that everyone all the sudden wants to figure out how to retrofit. First, again aesthetically I like the pre-20 head unit and climate setup better (see pics below). I don't need a larger brighter screen and for me, the dinky buttons and teensy knobs on the MY20 setup are no Bueno. I like the more simple larger rugged knobs and buttons which are easy to use with gloves in the mountains in the winter, etc. Also, my dusty dash aside, the new cluster doesn't doo much for me either vs pre 20MY (see other pics) And still with the tiny clock in the top middle? vs. the awesome accessory meter display integration thanks again to [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION]'s harness which I hope works on the MY20. Aesthetic aside, r/e Carplay/Android , nice for some but the functions of my SamsungNote are perfectly fine displayed next to the head unit in the Ram Mount I bolted there. As for audio performance, this has nothing over 2019 Pros and while yes it does beat the non-JBL pre2019 Pros dogshit stock audio system, the addition of OEM Audio+ to mine eclipses JBL setup by a mile (as determined by actually upgrading buddies JBL system to O+)... when removing that JBL, it is a joke what Toyota call a premium subwoofer.... check the O+ thread for comparison pics.

4. Keyless entry and push button start. This is a mixed bag of tricks for me. Again drawing from experiences with my wife's whip.... you can open the locked door just by being next to it with the Fob in pocket... but the puddle lights don't activate in dark as you approach like they do when you press the unlock button on the key which I don't mine holding. Also can't say how many times I been greeted with the "Elvis (fob) has left the building" 30 seconds after my wife left the car with it in her purse as I drop her at the front and go look for parking. Finally I don't mind sticking a key in a keyhole and starting a car vs. pressing a big round button... whatever.

5. Sideways bent exhaust pipe. Personal pref I guess and might look neat around town but I like mine straight thanks. Less to get snagged on a bit of trail furniture if you're not on pavement.

Ultimately I've said it before....All of these minor tweaks in MY20 are not terrible or great but none of them INMHO warrant the way the price has been once again jacked upward. if you're just now buying a pro then yes, Green is super cool and will be another highly demanded Pro if price is OK for you... Otherwise buy a new '19 for less and/or a preowned earlier year. And I just don't see the logic in ditching a pre-20 Pro for a 20 on color alone when these rigs are capable of being driven half a million miles. Just my 2 cents... again

Thanks. I was in my dealership for service this morning and three different Toyota employees went out of their way to compliment the truck, which is a bit weird in that Cement is offered on other vehicles.

Actually I amend that to say moot point as the puddles don't exist on the MY20 Pro. I made the comment based on how my wife's '14MY Cherokee works so if your '16 4runner limited does have that function then I'd expect it to be present on the '20 Pro as well IF they bothered to add the stinkin' indicator mirrors in the first place. Would be interesting to hear from our northern neighbors whether their '20 Pros work that way too.

Great post. Saw a sweet Calvary Blue yesterday. Don't see them on any lots and rarely on the road.
