2020 TRD Pro Updates - Army Green & Push Button Start

Congrats to those getting delivery this week.

I was supposed to be getting mine with my dealer's allotment between October 5th and 7th which was supposed to be the second wave. Still have no VIN and no idea when it will happen.

Yeah, I finally decided the extras you get with the PRO were just nice to haves and the stuff that I want I can do on my own cheaper. Plus, I like the MGM better than the army green, that is just my opinion though.

I don’t mind sharing what I paid, although it wasn’t a great deal I am sure, but, I am happy with it. I know there was someone in another thread that said they got $4k under MSRP. We paid MSRP though $44,500 and some change. Included predator steps which I will be selling, moonroof, and roof rack.

So far I like it, but, literally just got it. I will need a week or so of driving it around to get a real feel for it. This is my first 4Runner so I don’t really have anything to compare it to.

Different wheels and tires,aren't you approaching 50k? Isn’t the resale of TRDP higher in the long run? My Cement had unbelievable resale value w 48k miles!

I will answer your question with another question and that is maybe? Haha. I do plan on adding new shocks at some point and changing out the tires for Nitto Terra Grapplers. But, I am hoping I can get some back selling the current basically new tires depending on how soon I replace the tires. I think I can do new tires and shocks for under $5k.

And for me, resale isn’t as big of a concern, I plan on keeping it for quite some time like 10 or more years, so, it may be a factor down the road but I am not worried about it now.

Plus it isn’t only another $5k, it is a minimum of $6k as the base price is $51k on the pro. Not to mention the additional taxes and so on. I think I saved myself more in the neighborhood of $7k - $8k.

I will also add because I think I saw it asked in here somewhere along the way about the Off-Road premiums having the remote start and so on. I can answer that question and it does not. So you can’t use the app to lock, unlock, remote start or doing the remote start from the key fob. Unless I was doing something wrong for that part. Ha.

It doesn't have any remote start feature at all? I was trying to make this same decision and was wondering that.

If so that's pretty disappointing. The lack of remote start and no dual zone climate control makes the TRD Pro more attractive. I know it's silly but I use remote start via the FordPass app everyday for my F150. I knew I would be sacrificing the Remote Connect app if I went with the ORP but was hoping I could at least have a keyfob option.

That being said, I'm also weighing getting a 2019 TRD Pro for a deep discount and adding a new headunit and remote start. The main reason I'd consider a 2019 is not having to deal with the TSS Sensor in the grille limiting my aftermarket bumper options.

Finally picked up my ORP today.

I have some bad news for you non-pro owners-to-be looking to install the pro grille + garnish. The grille fits fine, but the garnish...

It doesn't fit without modification.

The TSS sensor box protrudes about a quarter of an inch from the lower grille, which prevents you from putting the garnish piece on.

There's probably a new part number, which, like the rest of the 2020 parts, isn't available yet.

Lucky for me I ran out of Dremel wheels, and all the stores are closed now.

So, good news, picked up my new 4R. Bad news, can't finish my first mod.

Hope this helps anyone else that was hoping to use an older pro grille kit on their 2020.

Also, the AJT Designs limited keyfob cover doesn't work for the new keyfobs. For whatever dang reason the new key PCBs are ever so slightly wider. I'm failing all across the board today

Update: Talked to AJT, order the 2016+ Tacoma cases for our new keyfobs.

The garnish in the photo is clearly notched out for the TSS box.

No remote start from phone confirmed. I haven't tried the standard keyfob remote start yet though, wondering if that works.

In my Lexus, I had to activate the remote start function through TechStream and use the key fob.

I can confirm that the fob does not remote start off the lot. I am not aware of what this tech stream is, so if it is a thing I can or need to do I would be willing to try if someone has more info.

Also to add about the changing out of the grill for the Pro’s. I have no degree of truth to it, only what my salesman told me, but, the sensor will need to be re-calibrated if it is moved at all. So if you do the swap, it will need to be re-calibrated.

From pics/vids I have seen, the Pro and ORP fobs look the same...or did I miss something? Can new Pro and ORP owners post a pic of their fobs? I'd really like to not have to do another install of a 3rd party remote start (from a cost perspective) and have it be native to the vehicle.

I'd assume software gimping. BUT the silver lining to all this is that 3rd party remote starts don't have the stupid "safety feature" that turns off your vehicle when you open the doors from the outside.

Mine does on my RAV4 with Pushbutton Start...so, probably the same on 4R...ugh...

Wait and see...3 more weeks until mine arrives...
