2021 Tahoe

I came from a sierra so I can’t go back now after my first toyota, lol. This looks like the silverado which I happen to think is the ugliest full size pick up on the road today, deal breaker for me.

I was looking at Yukon/Tahoes before I got my 4runner and they are also stupid expensive if you want some options on it, even the basic ones seemed overpriced and weren't very nice at all.

My dream suv is still the 200 series land cruiser, but they arent sold here. The sequoia looks like it was thrown to the bottom of a lake to bloat.

The first thing I noticed was the terrible alignment. WTF? GM can't figure out how to design a front suspension that retains it's alignment even close when the height goes up. LOL. Typical GM engineering. Never thinking even one step ahead. I do like the specs at least on the 3.0 Duramax. That's literally the only thing that would make me consider a Tahoe. The engine appears to be a gem, at least on paper. Let's hope it's a hell of a lot better than the 2.8 VM Motori they call a "duramax" in the Canyon/Colorado. That is a notoriously shitty diesel - and has been since it was sold in Jeeps twenty years ago. If the 3.0 is a solid engine - I can see a pretty good case for owning one for long distance family travel and camper towing despite the interior and build quality that we all know it'll have problems with.

An LX570 keeps its alignment pretty close at full height.

Yeah, I looked at the pics on Jalopnik, and you're right - you can see the +camber and possibly toe-in on every pic. Wonder if the rear will experience problems with the lift since it'll be independent rear suspension? Hard to tell from the photos if anything's off in the rear.

GM has lost it regarding design, the new corvette looks like a camaro that's had a bunch of plastic cladding thrown on it then been hit from the front with a giant fly swatter.

Gosh I hope Toyota knocks it out of the park with the new 4runner, whenever it comes out.

I would look at a very basic Tahoe, not an overpriced and overloaded ''Pimp'' model. The Tahoe with a 5.3 in a base model would be a nice vehicle and mpg similar if not better than the 4Runner. I buy to keep a vehicle at least 10 years, so I don't worry about resale. I have had 3 Express Vans with the same basic powertrain as the Tahoe and no problems in the 150K lifespan. Both my 4Runners have been solid as well and I love Toyota!

I just came from a 2018 Yukon Denali with the 6.2L and loved it. Do you plan on off-roading? Have you owned GM vehicles before? I bought my Denali new and the value plummeted on it! MSRP was 79K, I paid 64K and sold it 16-18 months later for 50K.

Thats a terrible investment and the main reason I came back to 4runner. I saw a TRD Pro 4Runner in Nashville sale for about 4-5K less than a brand new one and it was 3 model years old:faint:

Same story here. Came from a '16 Tahoe, which I bought used with ~15k miles on it for $45k. MSRP was somewhere in the 60's. I thought I had gotten a pretty good deal until I sold it two years later for $28k.:doh:

Having said that, it was a great vehicle in a lot of ways. Big, fast, quiet, safe. There's nothing wrong with those trucks except the landslide in trade in value. They're big. I'd measure the garage first, and make sure the wife is comfortable driving and parking it (mine wasn't).

I’ve had numerous GM vehicles over the decades. Some were good, but all three lemons I ever owned were GM’s.

I’d steer clear of any new generation first year of any GM model. My observations is that in their rush to bring a new gen vehicle to market, they release them half baked and allow the public to do the remainder of their R&D. After a couple years, the bugs are usually worked out, in time for the next gen to be released.

My experience has proven that build quality of GM vehicles are not to par. The automotive press always complains about interior materials. My last Cadillac shed parts like a dog shaking water off - starting at 3,000 miles.

That Cadillac, a 1996, a huge lemon, was the last straw for me on buying GM. At the same time I bought that Cadillac, I also bought a Chevrolet S-10 4x4 pickup. It was a good truck, though did have a number of minor issues showing its substandard build quality. But in 2002 I traded it in on my new Tacoma and I’ve never bought a GM product again. And unless they change their ways, I don’t ever plan to.

On the topic of exterior styling of the new Silverado, to me it looks like some sort of menacing Japanese comic book insect. But then again, my buddy says my ‘18 SR5 looks like “an angry fish sucking a lemon.” :

based on vehicles in NC, if you buy a tahoe i'm pretty sure you're required to stretch tires on really ugly wheels then squat the back, throw a light bar on it, and you're apparently required to have a sticker on your window with your instagram

Yep, don't buy a first year re-design, especially if it is a Chevy. Not only that, the MSRP is high because there are always suckers that have to be the first ones to get it and will pay it. After 3 or 4 years it'll be 10 to 15k off sticker without even negotiating. Even then, way overpriced given the depreciation and the poor reliability. 4x4 capability is pretty good though.

No diesel on the Z71 from what I've read. Looks are subjective, I don't mind it. People will always buy the Tahoe and Suburban. V8s will be typical GM good. Transmissions are likely the weak point as they will age. And we all thought that the 4L60e's dying at 150k was bad. Let's see how the IRS holds up since this is their first IRS on a full size.

Shame to think the Sequoia is now even further behind the ball as far as new fullsize SUV's go. Toyota is too busy with turning the Rav4 and Highlander into Subaru copies, sticker and aero packages on the Camry/Avalon to worry about the Tundra,Sequoia and 4Runner ...... i know...i know...they are coming, EVENTUALLY.

The main reason right there I won't buy those vehicles until GM gets their ass and head wired together...too big of a hit for nothing.

My first 2010 5th gen....sold it 6 years later, with 130k on the clock for 22K...would love a new Tahoe, ain't going to take that kind of hit.

Sorry gSwift, no offense meant. Congrats on the Corvette(s). I'm the type that may buy one with 125,000 miles, eventually, at the bottom of the depreciation curve, when I'm retired, if my wife signs the permission slip... so that means probably never so pay no attention to me.
But for kicks, my favorite rear engine design of all time is likely the Countach.

The new Supra, my goodness Toyota blew a great opportunity to make a sleek, mean machine with stone cold Toyota reliability.

No offense taken at all. I do still have a love for the Countach.. I was that kid that grew up in the 80's and had the Countach poster on the wall :jump: And yes, Toyota blew it on the Supra. I had such high hopes for it
