22re engine in a 3rd gen 4runner?

I am looking to convert a 4runner from gas to propane. I really want to do the conversion on a 3rd gen, but I must use a 22re engine with carb for the process to work. fuel injection won't work. Does anyone know if the engine mounts are the same? will a 22re fit in a 3rd gen? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

22rs were great in the first gen toyota truck which only weighs a fraction of what 3rd gens weigh ... if I were to convert a 3rd gen to propane I would use a SBC not sure where you want to source your kit from but this company sells conversions for the 22r as well as SBC

22RE is a great engine. But I think you're making a lot more work for yourself than it's worth.

Curious, why can't you covert a fuel injected vehicle?

i agree, the 22RE is a great motor one of the best toyota ever made, its a work horse motor, sure its not a very powerfull motor(and yes they make way more than 80hp) but they will run for ever, even on 2 cylinders(ask my how i know) it you want a motor than you can take to the end of the earth and back a 22r is a good choice, very simple and strait forward and reliable.

but i think there are better options for a motor swap, as stated the motor is way under powered for a 3rd gen runner and i dont know why you think you need to have a carbrated motor and fuel injected... guys run propane injection on diesel trucks(its like nitrous for diesel) and it works great. most forklifts that run on propane are fuel injected and not carbrated...
 
well with these 3.4s now being older and more proven I think they are just as reliable or more then the 22re, ive personally owned a 400k+ tacoma with nothing but a starter and timing stuff.

If you ask me, the 3.4 has proven itself as toyotas top 5 engines

He said carbed, so i assumed 22r, and a stock 22r (assume used) is a 80 hp motor.
 
eh fair enough, a good strong running 22r should be making like 110-120 hp at the crank so i guess that would equate to about 80 at the wheels
