24" lift Floor Jack vs. Hi-Lift 48" Jack?

Hello All,

So I bought a HF floor jack on BF that looks awesome for my 4Runner. But, it is big and heavy as heck and was expensive.

I also got a smokin' deal on an HL485 ($75 at pepboys.com) which got me to thinking do I really need the floor jack?

I'll do basic maintenance like brakes, oil changes, etc. and will use jack stands.

Thanks,

Eddie

the floor jack will be better for home/garage use. keep the HL for up in the mtns use.

the floor jack is a much better option around the house, it lifts better on flat level ground, the high lift is a trail jack or once in a while, they are not stable, and the chance of damage to your rig is high. I also carry a bottle jack in my trail gear, it works well also. and is a better option in your garage.

The high lift is not good for what your thinking

I feel like I am in danger just looking at my HL jack… I would absolutely use a regular floor jack over a HL any chance I got.

I bought a HL as an emergency tool, even practicing at home in ideal conditions feels sketchy.

they are an accident waiting to happen. thats why I carry a 3 ton bottle jack and blocks of wood also.
I've strapped my high lift the the sliders to keep it from kicking out. I feel the high lift is an advanced recovery tool. not to be used by a novice. there are so many ways it can kick your A$$.
AND when you think it's figured out, it surprises you with a new way to injure you.
but i still carry one.

Lets face it, if your breaking out a jack on the trail, your in it deep. lol

X2 on the bottle jack. Those Hi Lift Jacks can be sketchy at times.
