To hopefully answer your question regarding rubbing, yes you will probably rub. But seeing you have the light racing UCAs you can add some caster to move the tires forward so you wont have to do the body mount chop, thats how I handled it. In front you will probably need to trim some plastic or pull the fender forward. For me cutting the fender was a no brainer considering they will get cut even more once that dang bumper arrives on my door step.

Thanks for the tip, right now my caster is at 3.5/3.6 deg, hopefully putting it at 4 is enough to avoid rubbing. If ever though is it safe to push it above 4?

It would probably rub about the same as a 285/70/17 after you put 1.25" spacers on,being 285's are 1.2" wider the your pizza cutter tires.

The thing about Spidertrax spacers is they hold their value like gold. Just watch for a used set and they go about $150 or so. If you don't like them or tires rub too much ....you can sell them for about $150 or so ,any day all day.

Sounds good, loosing $50 is not bad in trying the spacers. Will be ordering it by tonight! Thanks!

you should definitely be running them closer to 45 psi. likely will notice a little mpg boost when you do.

Thanks man! I'm running them at 40 psi right now and It seems a little stiff but not as loud. I think a little more than that will be harsh but thanks for the tip though will definitely experiment on what psi I'm going to be comfortable with. Thanks!

Bump for an update on the tires...noise and mileage?

I have the tires for around 11k miles now...and i'm getting around 17 mpg highway miles when we went from nj to colorado. But that was with 3 male adults with a lot of load. Road noise never bothered me, i got used to it. City mpg i get around 16-17 mpg in the computer... I run it at 38 psi which isn perfect for city and highway for me.. Hope this helps. I definitely recommend the tire size, never got stuck on them, they are not that bad in the rain too... I have yet to test them in the snow...

Also, i got the same size spare and it fits perfectly in the spare location.

Looks good SEP! I almost did the same thing. I decided to go with DuraTrac's because I thought the BFG's might be just a bit skinny and a bit heavy. I've been happy with my choice but I bet I could run those BFG's and be happy also.

Two thoughts:
1. Drop in mileage is two things:
_a. Computer is off due to larger diameter. MPG has to be adjusted by 3% or so IIRC
_b. Rolling resistance is probably a wash, if not greater - the MTs, despite the smaller(?) contact patch of the skinny tire, are much worse rolling than OEM tires. This has to do with tread pattern and rubber compound.
_c. 15 lb more hung on each wheel. 39lbs vs. 54 lbs ....Hmmm - more rotational mass. While wind resistance/rolling resistance/contact patch might be benefits, there is no denying you just increased the weight of your tires by 38%! Sure, any respectable tire will weigh more, but it is the unsprung rotational mass that kicks your MPG to the curb.
2. my Duratracs got much louder as they got some wear on them. Sure, you get used to it (ie: Turn up the radio!), but it is there and usually grows.


That being said, OP, Nice truck! Tires look good. I mosdef see the benefit of keeping the rotational weight and contact patch better for better efficiency, which changing the tread pattern to get the aggressiveness you need. Thanks for posting!

Your tire size is actually 4.6% higher than stock, multiply your mileage by 1.046 to find actual mileage.

your highway mileage shouldnt change much after you correct for it, your city will likely be a bit lower....

Any update on these tires, and if you ever tried the SpiderTrax spacers with them?

When my BFG A/Ts wear out this is the tire I would like to run.

I tested fitted ones of my FJ40 onto the 4runner with no spacers and no lift and they fit, but looked like they would rub with articulation. I wonder if the Icon (stage 2) lift would help to counter this. I would love to run this tire with the ST spacers and lift and not have to body mount chop.

I'm surprised that you say that your KM2's are very loud. I have the Jeep Wrangler original KM's and they are super quiet. I'm surprised how quiet they are in fact. KM's seem to have a more aggressive tread also than the KM2.

It's OW 2.5 which is Radflo 2.5. The scan gauge is very useful for me, any extra information. I like the transmission temp reading it really helped when we were driving up the mountains of colorado. The trip meter and the speed i'm using my gps.

When I didn't have the wheel spacers, I didn't get any rub and I could've used the stock uca probably. But since I installed the wheel spacers to achieve the look I was going for then I was glad I had the LR UCA to increase the caster a little bit more.

yea, it is loud coming from a stock highways tires. but you get used to it. I would noticed it when on city driving but none on the highway at high speed.

I really like these tires. I still have 5 of them in the garage but since I got my FJ, my wife have been primarily using the 4Runner. So I had to get a safer set of tires for her.

I have no complaints except for its performance in icy road conditions. especially when it is incline or a decline, it doesn't grip. That's when I start to worry. but other than that, it performed well on most conditions even in the rain and snow.

I only rubbed on full lock and also when the front was stuffed in when offroading.

For those who want to see how the 255/80/17 km2 look like on a TE with 3 inch lift, here it is.

Review: On going...

Appearance: It looks a little odd at first but the longer I look at it the more I like it. I like the side profile of the truck now, it looks like the tire is in proportion to the ride height.

Drive: Easy to brake and accelerate than stock. It doesn't feel like you have a huge tire. I commute about 20 miles to work and it feels like it drives lighter.

Road Noise: Yep, it is there. Very pronounced when at slow speed, I haven't driven it yet on the highway, will get a chance to drive 260 miles round trip this Saturday.

Mileage: As expected, computer calculations on the mileage drop significantly but I have ScanGauge II on order will be here tomorrow. I will add some notes as I test this tire.

Why I chose this tire: In preparation to the FJ Summit. I figured this will give us good mileage and great traction.

Final Thoughts: I like the way it drives right now, the only thing that bothers me is the road noise. Even if I turn up the radio I can still hear the hum. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it right now, but I can still bear with it and find another means to lower the noise. I'm open to suggestions.
