I was just kidding about cali pricing, that price is absolutely ridiculous just like everything else that is over priced out here, I guess that was the point I was trying to make :D
 
I could see it with the one last year that was 100% original with only 25k miles on it... That thing was worth it for a collector, but this is a restoration, and that's never worth that much.
 
yea, i agree the price is definitely in question... i live in the local area so i wanted to see this thing in person... well heres my report... the pics do not do it justice... i have owned 1 gen's in the past and i have to say this one looks like it rolled off the the showroom floor, no joke... yea i know they are asking a grip of cash for it, but to see a 1 gen in this condition in person makes me feel like a kid again! i crawled all over this thing and everything is there, the dash has no cracks, the interior is all original and in excellent condition, and even the infamous missing interior pieces are all there and in excellent condition... all suspension and powertrain parts have all been rebuilt and/or replaced with new OEM parts, the paint is top quality (not some macco crap job) and NO rust!... gotta love CA and AZ cars!!! even saw the stack of receipts for this thing... Now, i love rockcrawlers just as much as the next guy but after seeing a 1st gen restored to like new condition made me rethink my stance on these, and have to say i am now definitely more partial to 1 gen's restored... i know i will get some heat for the OEM / rockcrawler statement but seeing it in person was a game changer.

Now as much controversy as this thread has already generated, i do have to give this shop a hats off on the build, definitely NOT some shade tree mechanic job... i don't have $26K laying right now so wont be buying it but who ever does will definitely have one sweet ride… also for another comparison of prices there is another shop in the area that sells restored westfalia's for $50K+ all day long :wow: might just be a central coast thing :shrug:

To sum it all up, IMO these rigs are "classics"... might not be worth $26K just yet, but they are becoming harder and harder to find and i bet there are only a few in the country in this condition... just my 2 cents :cheers:

Gentleman it's call "capitalism" ..... if a product is deemed to be priced to high it does not sell..... a simple concept.
 
I don't care how much paint they put on it, those are the original springs in the rear and if they can't be bothered to fix that, who knows what else they ignored?
 
nope, i saw brand new springs all the way around... with my own two eyes

look at it this way if does sell, all you 1st gen owners should be happy as they are going up will go up in value... not a bad thing i would say... look at some of of the cars from not too far back from 85... (70's) they are going for some serious money, and im sure they all said no way not too long ago too... the unfortunate truth everything turns into a "classic" at some point.
 
no no no no value is in the eye of the beholder not in the sellers greedy little hands.
im in the middle of my full restore and i have maybe 4k into it without a engine and 2500 in lockers and axle stuff.
i estimate 8-9000 when completed with full engine upgrade and all.
this effing jerk is just stupid and should be shot and those rear springs are not new not a chance.
 
Yes, I see this in the pics but when I went and saw it in person it was not sagging at all... I'm not blind nor stupid!... Maybe they swapped out springs? Dunno shrug::shrug: either way I'm over it... It's the 4th we should all be out doing somethibg other than sitting in front of a damn computer... time to get drunk! :)

He's keeping it all original so it's worth more. but seriously think of the monster 1st gen you could build for half that money. Bumpers, lockers, tires and suspension woohoo, that would be killer.
 
Lolz, never know... Someone is going to be dumb enough to buy it..

If I sold mine right now, I'd sell it for 4500, or maybe 4.

sometimes you toyota people make me laugh when it comes to this stuff !!! most of you guys have NO idea whats involved in a COMPLETE restoration . although complete restorations on toyotas are not that common for some of you people , I deal with them EVERYDAY , and my business is expanding , which I can tell you .. there is a demand !

I think this is a good job . and probabally a fair price for what has been done !

and as to the poster that said he wouldnt pay 26G for my Trekker , dont worry , I wouldnt even consider that as a respectable offer .( I have more $$ then that in NEW parts alone )

is a 427 cobra really worth 1 mill + ? not to me
1 Gen Ferrari - pricless ? not to me
427 corvette 100 grand ... not to me

but to some people they are !! I say stop hackin' on other peoples "stuff" , get off of the arm chair , and go actually build one

Ok, I'll have to stop you right there.

Thing is, and this isn't a 'defense' to them, but facts, that every member on this forum has built their rigs. Yeah, some like it stock and that is cool, but guarunteed every member here would build it bigger and better than that for 26k, and have more than 10k of it left over.

They are not trashing the truck because it is a 'restoration', but are thinking logically in that to speak for probably everyone here, wouldn't even lay a finger on that truck for 26k. I'd go buy me a used 2011 F150 with a few thousand miles on it for that price, with warranty.

Though I agree, he may have put in a lot of effort, work and money into the restoration of the truck, it is not even close to touching 7-8k, let alone 26. That is like saying, you bought a 95 gmc sonoma trashed, fixed it up and spent 40k on it, expecting to get 50k out of it, for parts, labor, and to put money into your own pocket, nobody would pay it.

I understand that , and that is exactly why , it makes a "stock" truck , retain some sort of " extra" value .
In the real world , modified trucks are not worth as much in the resale market as stock trucks . believe it or not , to "everyone here" ... this is the minority , not the majority of toyota owners

I do know , and have done the modified . meny thousands on ARB's and gears , engine mods .. I do them everyday . and i know exactly what you are saying , that some people , and most on this board would rather spend there money on these such modifications ..

but what I dont think some people realize .. is there ARE people whom want a stock 4Runner .. there ARE people who dont want any modifications , and there are people willing to pay for a nice clean STOCK 4 Runner .. sall i'm sayin '

So... that's not how it works?? I was looking to get at least 40k for mine. Way to take the wind out of my sails. :sobbing:
 
Hey guys, most of us are mechanics in some form or fashion. If we weren't the type of guys to do it our selves, we wouldn't be here. This is a part of the problem with that price tag for us. We see something and say "no way it's worth that much". We only say that because we know that if we do it ourselves that it can be done that much cheaper!

Let's say a windshield for example... I would never pay $1200 for a front windshield because I know that I could do it myself for much less. But to BadVision, maybe he couldn't so he had to have someone else do it for that price :D

But for anyone else that doesn't have any idea what a wrench or a bottle of oil is, maybe the 24 or 26k is a good price.
 
Slacker, no one is doubting the effort involved, or the costs involved with restoring a vehicle, either. The simple fact is there must still be a demand for what's been restored, AT THAT PRICE RANGE, or the owner is simply living a pipe dream asking for it. You mention Ferraris and Cobras and such--there is HIGH demand for them, therefore the price point moves accordingly. We understand you build and restore for a living, and that's obviously where your emphasis is, and what you respect and will pay for, but that's NOT a justification for the other 99.9% of the people in the market. You can't separate the effort from the market demand, and demand says this guy is likely going to eat the money he put in his rig--THAT'S what we're commenting on.
