265/70/R17 Michelin Latitude X-Ice w/o lift?

I know that the issue of tire fitment is dealt with regularly and I have reviewed those threads but still have a couple of specific questions:

1) Is anyone running a set of Michelin X-Ice tires in 265/70/R17 with the stock suspension? Thoughts on whether these might rub? I have a 2008 4Runner Sport. It seems like people are typically able to fit the 265/70s without rubbing (with the possible exception of BFG A/Ts) but I haven't seen much information about the X-Ices.

I'd like to run a slightly larger tire to fill up the wheel wells better and gain a small amount of ground clearance but would hate to spend the money and then find out that these tires rub or that there's some other issue with them.

2) Does anyone have any general thoughts about these tires or running a larger than stock winter tire? I live in Alaska and definitely want a set of dedicated winter tires (and will likely buy a set of Revos in 265/70 when it's time for the winter rubber to come off). One thought that occurred to me is that a larger tire might start rubbing if there's any snow or ice build-up in the wheel well... if you've done any driving in snowy conditions you know that you can get some serious build-up around the tires pretty quickly in the right conditions.

Also, I went into my local Costco as they sell the X-Ice and are running a $70 discount on sets of Michelins but they refuse to install a non-stock size in their own garage. So, if I do end up going with 265/70s, I'll have to take them somewhere else for installation...

What size are your stock tires? I have an '08 Sport with 265/65/17's stock and have been contemplating 70's and have no worry that they'll fit. I might even be able to get the speedometer more accurate since it's presently off about 1.5 MPH at highway speeds.

They're 265/65/R17 Dunlop Grandtrek AT20s.

Thanks for the link. I also use the "survey" info at Tire Rack, great resource. The X-Ices seem to get pretty favorable reviews and they also seem like a reasonable deal - about $520 for four at my local Costco (uninstalled).

I would have pulled the trigger already except for the bit at Costco about them not installing them... has me wondering whether I really want to go with the larger tire after all.

Carry the rims to Costco. You picked 'em cheap off of Craigs list. The 4Runner rims are going to be your 'winter rims' for your FJCruiser (which comes with 265/70's).:biggrin2:
