265/70R17 only in 4 or 10 ply???

Found a local shop that has Nitto Terra's and Kumho Road Ventures...prices are about the same at $155/tire. I haven't shopped around at all yet, but was supprised to hear that they either come in 4 ply or 10 ply?? No way in hell I would want 10 ply, but does nobody make a similar tire in 6 ply? I've always run 6 ply in a/t or m/t and NEVER had a flat due to the weak tire. Maybe I should be looking at another tire? Or maybe I should settle for the 4 ply for smoother ride and lighter tire??? Thanks for any responses

I have a similar issue with the **** Cepek Mud Country tires I'm most interested in, with Cooper SST being a second choice. I believe both of them (the **** Cepek for sure) ONLY come in a 10 ply in my size). What up with that??

Edit - OK this is funny. I wrote D!ck Cepek tires but with a i, of course instead of a explamation point. Then when saw it came up **** I merely thought I had a glitch. I corrected it only to find now it's **** again. Who knew tires could be X rated !!

I google'd 265/70r17 6 ply and found other a/t tires, but appears that certian brands only come in 4 or 10 ply. Kind of sucks, but oh well. One I'm looking at is Mastercraft courser at2. Seems like a good tire for the money. I'll do more searching when my tires are nearing the end of their life.

Where are you guys finding the ply numbers? Tire rack doesn't seem to have them and I can't find them on certain manufactures websites. I'm trying to see if the P265/70/17 Bridgestone Dueler Revo 2 are 4 ply and the LT265/70/17 are 6 ply or something else. Thanks.

I THINK this is right. P rated are 4 ply, LT will be 6 ply. You should find the "load range" on tire rack. I know "C" is 6 ply. I think D is 8 and E is 10. Not 100% sure, but I think that's right.

Tire Rack (as well as some other online tire sources) shows the ratings in letters, and I believe you're correct E is 10 ply. What makes no sense is the way manufacturers make a common size only in E. Such as the Cepek Mud country 265/70/17 which is only E with max air pressure of 80. Yet make both the very wide 33/12.5/17 and the huge 35/12.5/17 only in D with a max air pressure of 50. There must an obvious reason for this that isn't standing out. What am I missing?

I recently purchased Yokohama Geolander 265/70R17 tires and was informed that they have 10 ply. So far I am happy with the tires. There are a bit taller than my stock Michelin tires and way better off-road. Also the ride quality is no different from the stock tires.

10 ply? Seems like they would beat you to death on the road! Maybe there's not as big a difference as I thought..Anyone else running 10 ply on their 4runner?

STTC - Tire Info, Ply Rating, Load Range ive always run D or E load on my trucks & 4x4s, they ride nice to me, the newer radial compounds are quieter & handle better & smoother than years ago. yea, they feel heavier,(so mpg may drop a bit) but not uncomfortable. i previously had GYSA (great tire) but i already thought the 4th gen. rode too car like for me, & they didnt provide the ride i was looking for. anyway, even if the E load didnt ride as smoothly as it does,, id still run em, heck, if i wanted my 4x4 to ride like a car, id buy a lincoln. everybodies different, just my 2. http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9269&highlight=running+load+tires http://www.toyota120.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9363&highlight=running+load+tires

BF Goodrich All Terrain TA KO's come in a 6 ply (load range C)

Also Kumho Road Venture AT KL78, and Cooper ATR's come in 6 ply. I am going with the Coopers. I would never put an 8 or 10 ply on my 4Runner. It would ruin the smooth ride.

These are the only 3 brands of tires that I found in 265/70 R17, that have the 6 ply (C) rating.
