265/70r17 too small with 3 inch lift?

Like the title says, is this tire size going to look too small with a lift?

I was planning on OME 884-885 in the front and superflex in the rear with 5100's all around, but I'm stuck on what tire to get. I definitely don't want to get 285's, my mileage is bad as it is.

I was thinking either a 265/70 A/T, a 275/70 A/T, or a 255/75 A/T. I don't need the tire to fill up the wheel well but I definitely don't want it too look to small.

That's all subjective. I don't think it looks too small, nor was I ever told it did. 3 inch lift with 265/70/17

That looks really good. I just wonder if it'll look as good with something like a Toyo Open Country A/T II...

You're gonna want wheel spacers if you want to fill out the fenders like NJShadow did.

Also, more aggressive tires like mudders, BFG ATs, or GY Duratracs are going to look better than something less aggressive like the Toyo ATs with a 3" lift.

There's a lot of uncertainty about it, but it seems like most people who move up to a full 3" lift end up wanting 275s or 285s because they don't fill out the fenders.

I know I purchased some 275s less than 2 months after putting the full 3" on because I thought it look unfinished... Then I realized I spend too much time on the road for 275s and lowered the lift and went back to 265s... It sucked, lot of wasted money on tires. Luckily I didn't spend much on the 275s, but neither set of 265s were cheap. I also know of a couple other members who couldn't handle the 265s- [MENTION=165]momo.75[/MENTION] [MENTION=72620]A_HuL[/MENTION].

After you lift it.... have the tire shop test fit both sizes. Pick up the set that you like the best.

I'm going with either a OME or TOYTEC lift and sticking with my 265/65/17 Nitto AT's. Not too worried about the wheel well look.

What he said...I'm currently running a 3in lift with worn out Yokohama Geolanders in 265/70/17 and they look a bit small but a nice set of ATs will look good and are still a slight increase from stock size. Plus as an added bonus they'll be cheaper than 275 or 285s.

I personally think my 285/75/16's look too small with 3" of lift. I feel like they look silly, but that's just me I guess.

Currently run this with my ATs. And the tire doesnt look small. Could you go bigger yes, but then have to deal with rubbing and trimming. This size is a good meatier more full looking size.

I don't know about 285's, but I'll second this. I think my 265/70/17 Duratrac's look tiny.

All the pictures with FJ rims are on 265/70/17. The most recent are the second and third picture (taken Oct 2012) of the flexing which are just after the 5100's were installed.

I would have to agree with most of the opinions on here about 265/70/17s looking a bit disproportional for 3" lifts as it used to be a pet peeve of mine when I had 265/70/17s on my 2" lift. I recently upgraded to BGF KM 255/75/17 and still think they don't fill up the wheel wells as much as I would like.

Though I think custom rims with different backspacing/offset/width and/or wheel spacers contribute to filling out the wheel wells more than stock rims due to the tires being pushed out more to line up or past the fender edge rather than being inside the wheel well.

I have been very happy with 255-75-17's. I just added wheel spacers today and seems to look better being pushed out.

i really like my 265/70/17s on my 3" lift. Only at certain angles it looks possibly small but after wheeling this weekend and messing with it, i dont want to go bigger or i would have blown off the flares.

That's weird because I don't rub at all on the flares. Only place I'll ever rub is deep inside the rear wheel well when im completely stuffed.

All depends on wheel width/offset.
