285 70 17 Tires Installed, But Now My VSC Light Is Permanently On...

Anyone have this issue and know how to solve it?

I've got a 2013 TE. The anti slip/VSC light is on, but it's not turning off when I push the push button. The traction control has NOT kicked in when driving spirited.

UPDATE 14DEC16:
I finally got the time to get under my truck. Looks like the alignment shop really caught the ABS wire good, and then tried fixing it to no avail (since there's no bracket and bolt).

I'm just taking a guess but maybe a wheel speed sensor was damaged OR perhaps the vehicle detects both engine/transmission speed and it's not matching up to new wheel speed. [emoji848] just thinking out loud.

It is not the tiresbeing 285/70s causing the issue. Looks like something was damaged. Make sure all the connections are secure. Lift the vehicle and pull and push on each fron wheel to see if it does not move, bearing issue causing issue with sensor. Lastly a quick code pull could be helpful. That is about my extent except checking fuses. But definitely not the tires. I have them and many others without issue. In fact it isnt even possible to get an error code like tat just because of different tires. Could the y perhaps damaged a tire sensor?

Thanks. I'll research the fix for this. Not sure how he could jack that up doing an alignment... But he must have known he did because when I got back into the truck the clock and compass were off too.

Nothing was jacked up...ABS wire should be fine. It is somewhat normal for this to happen during an alignment. Most shops know.... and many of the advanced machines have a port to resolve it. It simply needs a zero point calibration. This can be done by you or the shop...Just search for the procedure.

I'm not sure why it only happens sometimes. Has something to do with the toe being adjusted and the yaw sensor.

Usually, not always of course, you don't get any dash lights when needing a ZPC. The symptoms for needing a ZPC are having VSC engage under normal driving conditions. Now, when the VSC engages during driving you will get the VSC light but it should not stay on continuously. Here is the link http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-g...celeration-sensor-zero-point-calibration.html where that contains that information.

Basically, the Zero Point Calibration is the "starting" point for all your abs, yaw and other sensors. This defines where "Zero" is by starting with the vehicle level front to back and side to side and not moving. With this zero point defined the sensors now have a baseline from which to operate effectively to let VSC do it's job.

With a broken or stretched ABS wire you can get one or a multitude of lights. So yes, it might need the ZPC or it might need a new ABS sensor wire or it could need a new ABS sensor if that one was inadvertently damaged during alignment. You should be able to check codes.

It does set the lights... Seen it happen several times.... It has something to do with the caster sweep/toe adjustment.. I'm sure BlackWorksInc knows why or when an alignment procedure triggers it... Most likely when the wheel was just not straight before... But I would bet good money that it just needs the calibration and the speed sensors are fine. It's a common thing with many Toyota vehicles that have stability control..

Thank you for the knowledge.

Interesting. My steering wheel wasn't straight before the alignment... It's still not actually.

Gentlemen,
Thanks for the update the info. I'll be taking her back today to schedule an appointment for a realignment as the max caster wasn't done. I'm now hitting my body mount... I'll let all know what the verdict is.

At the alignment shop (SEARS) now. It's up in the stand getting realigned (getting steering wheel straight and 4* Caster). The Supervisor is very defensive and before they even looked at my truck he said they didn't touch the ABS sensor/wire... I mentioned they may have hit it when adjusting the lower cam bolt, but he interrupted me and said "WE DON'T EVEN TOUCH THE LOWER CAM BOLT TO DO ALIGNMENTS! Not all vehicles need that so we didn't mess up the sensor." We went back and forth like that for a minute. Ultimately I stated that had their technician test drove the truck after he did the alignment he would've seen the light come on.

Mind you, while I was waiting to be seen some guy was in asking them to take oil out of his subaru because they over filled it yesterday. They questioned him like he was an idiot. The guy said, my car is putter ingredients and barely moving. The oil stick has oil all the way up the stick.

Oh, and this is the same lazy shop that told me the full size spare didn't fit carrier. They said, "It won't fit- it's 3" too big. If you didn't have a trailer hitch it'd work." When I got home I tried the spare and it fit EASILY!

Anyway, as I'm discussing this I'm realizing all the other poor characteristics of this shop now and I won't be bringing it back here for paid services. I say paid because I have a sneaky suspicion that I'll be back for something alignment or wheel balance before the warranty on it is up.

Not to defend the alignment shop as it's obvious the vehicle came out with an unexpected result (VSC light). Hopefully they get that straightened out for you!

I think I saw that you put on 285/70/17" tires? Most of the folks putting that sized tire have had to do a "Body Mount Chop". Not all but I am pretty sure most
or at least a lift and perhaps an after-market upper control arm would allow it to clear except for under front tire stuffing and turning.

here are a couple of links that refer to it:

Tire fitment guide and possible modifications for bigger tires:

Good luck with Sears. Let us know what it turned out to be!

It's not the wheel speed sensor. Turning the cam bolts has no impact on those wire. The only time you mess with the wires is when you remove the UCA/LCA... The lights are the zero point calibration. Ask them if they have the tools to reset it or are familiar with it. The modern Hunter alignment racks walk the tech through the procedure.

I'm sure you are quickly finding out most people in that industry are nearly brain dead, but to give them credit.. they see all kinds of cars and truck and can't possibly know the quirks of each.

As far as the body mount goes.. You may have trouble clearing it with stock UCAs, but should be doable. It won't be doable unless they adjust the LCAcam bolts to get the LCA ball joint as far forward as possible without getting camber too far out of spec.

So they realigned it and got the tires to clear the body mount when turned. The manager said to go to Toyota and get them to fix it so the light goes off. He said they'll reimburse me for the cost.

Here's the what my steering wheel looks like while going straight.

Personally besides getting toyota fixing the light issue I would look for a coupon for an alignment mine was around $60 when I put on the front UCA, Rear Springs, and The Front Spacers along with the new toyos in 285 without body mount chop I had Toyota Align it. No issues. But point is have them make sure that everything is correct as well as align your steering wheel.

When you put it in 4 low can you engage crawl control or do you get a warning light? I had this problem after an alignment on my Trail. A zero point calibration fixed the problem.
