285/75/17's OK to run?

I see most people running the 285/70 not the 285/75 that the km2 and toyo mt's come in. Will be doing a fair amount of clearancing and body mount chop. Pretty sure a 35x12.50 won't fit. Haven't been able to find an answer and wasn't sure how similar the fitment is compared to the runner

2 guys Tuxedo120 and Dan Kunz are running that size with lots of clearancing and trimming to fit. I know my 285/70/17s clear the body mount, but rub a little on the inner portion of the front bumper and fender liner, I trimmed it all to clear. Also Wheelers superbumps help from bottoming out the tire on the top of the wheel well.

I was pretty sure they were running the 285/70/17. I know one of them was running the 295/70/17.

Really want to fit a 35x12.50 but I don't see that happening.

I think they're both actually running 295/70/17s. Can I ask why you want a 285/75/17? It's not much bigger than a 285/70/17 and I would rather not rub then run a bigger tire. There is no way a 35 will comfortably fit on a GX without wheel well modifications.

Well........the 285/75's fit. I will be removing the inner fender plastic to increase clearance. Didn't even try the 35. I will not be removing the flares so there's no point. Pics to come.

i know several guys who are running 35x12.5x17s on their 4th gen 4runners. same frames and same suspension as our GXs... a 35 is doable it just might require a small body lift.

285/70-R17 vs 285/75-R17 Tire Comparison - Tire Size Calculator

its only barely a 1" diameter size difference so it def. should fit minus some heavy trimming. To fit my beefy 285/70/17, I had to cut half the fender well lining off, and trim the insides of the bottom portion of the front bumper where the liners attach at the bottom. It would rub there at full turn. Luckily, I cleared the body mount with some forward caster adjustment.

Well I decided to fit the 35x12.50's just because people said it couldn't be done. Its a tight fit for sure. I removed all the front fender plastics and trimmed the pinch weld and did the body mount chop. Also removed the front bumper since I'm awaiting the ARB.

not sure if this thread is closed out or not? signed up just because of this thread......Just curious how these tires worked for you? I have a GX with a toytech Boss lift with 33's and would love to get 35's or close. Could you fit bumpers on there without rubbing? Looks awesome by the way.
