285's & 2" Body Lift Possible?

I've been searching for hrs trying to figure out if I can squeeze 285's with a 2" body lift on a stock suspension with stock wheels. I do plan on getting the toytec ultimate lift but really need the tires within the next few months, so I might as well get the size i want now...lol! Also wondering if I need to extend anything with a 2" body lift? I know you have to get the bumper brackets, rad drop kit, steering shaft extension, is there anything else I'm missing? Does it matter if I'm 2WD? What about the shift lever? Any input would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

You'll be ok running 285s and a 2" body lift with some minor trimming and pounding on the firewall. On road, you probably wouldn't even need to do any trimming. Lift coils aren't going to technically help you clear bigger tires anyways because full compression of the suspension is still full compression. With lift coils, it'll just take more to fully compress the suspension because it puts the suspension closer to full expansion at rest. That makes it so you don't rub as often (and the ride will be a lot better of course).

I think you'll need drop brackets for the radiator with a 2" bl. And just loosen the tranny linkage before you install it and tighten it back down afterwards (so it won't be pulling on the linkage with the new bl). And you'll need a steering rag joint spacer too.

You "can" run 285's with no lift. If a suspension lift is just around the corner, buy the tires now and do your thing. Forego the 2" BL unless it was already part of your long term plan.

Long term plans are full 3" toytec ultimate lift and a 2" body lift, I'm hoping the 285's don't look too small lol!

As brian2sun mentioned. You will rub in the same spots with or without a suspension lift. You will rub less often with the lift.

285s on stock wheels USUALLY rub on the front upper control arms. Actually the more suspension lift, the more the UCA rotates into the tire inner sidewall. It may not rub with a stock suspension. A wheel spacer will eliminate this. Be forewarned, the less backspacing or the bigger the wheel spacer, the larger the arc of the front wheels and more they will rub. Wider is not better. A 1" or 1.25" is plenty.

i ran 285s for a long time with no real issues. i only rubbed at full lock and flex, and that was on the firewall. i cleared my UCAs just fine with 285s. the only time you will notice the larger tires is in a parking lot or pulling into/out of a parking space. you will get some rub on the frame rail/fire wall. but you are not going fast at all at full lock so their is nothing to worry about with a little rubber rubbing in some metal. do it youll be fine

Truth is, it's going to be more of a daily driver than a trail rig, so I'm not too worried about rubbing at full compression. more worried about rubbing around turns or on inclined and etc.

Forgot to mention but because my 3rd Gen is a 2WD I'm not sure if it has the shorter springs that are found on most 2WD 3rd gens.

What do you think?

Can't tell from the picture.
Measure from the wheel hub center to the wheel well lip. The average 4wd measurement is ~20".

Glad to hear I can run 285's with a 2" body lift. Can't wait! Found a pic online just now with the set up in mind.
