2nd alternator in ac compressor location

So I’m really thinking about future use of a self contained roof top air conditioning unit similar to an rv style AC unit since I do not have the ac system in my truck any longer.
The self contained 12v AC system I’ve been researching requires an 80 amp constant power to operate.
I also figured a 2nd alternator would be beneficial for other uses perhaps

Why not use that money to put the stock ac stuff back in?

There are high output alternators that are built from the stock alternator body. Check out PowerMax on ebay. I've been using one for a few years now and have had zero issues with it.

care to share the link to that AC unit? id be interesting in checking it out, as I have contemplated adding such a thing to my old hunting trailer.
as to the 2nd alternator. you might be better off just running a high performance unit. you'll have to buy a 2nd one anyway, and just a stock one wont be enough. so just buy a good one and stick it in the stock spot. there are some 300amp units out there.

If you want 80 amps at 12v (0.96 KW) and don’t want to use a high idle switch, you are probably going to need a high output alternator. That said, using a car engine as a generator is terribly inefficient. From an efficiency standpoint you are probably better off with a small inverter based generator like those made by Honda and Yamaha.
If you really want to use an alternator for an AC unit, I would look into higher voltage units like a 24 volt or 48 volt unit and just make a separate power system for it. That would in turn simplify wiring size to 40 and 20 amps to essentially run the same load, and more efficiently.

They also make belt driven hydraulic pump and air compressors… I’ve always wanted to add something in my other truck should the need arise.

That would be the smart / easier way I bet but I dunno just not something I’ve wanted to do plus removing all the ac stuff frees up so much room in the engine bay and will make it easier to tube frame the front end.

There are two things I’ve looked into and they are also used on heavy equipment so thinking that they are decent enough for a trail / camping rig

It's a Champion but same idea right? Looks like they also ran some bonus power into the cab, probably nuking some hot pockets on the go.

thanks for the info. those are a bit more expensive(both monetarily, and electrically) than I was wanting.
