Going fiberglass or steel? Looking forward to this topic since you mentioned before that this has been in the works.

They are "NEW technology" fiberglassglass panels .. iso resins , flex agents treated for heat or cold .. properties dont change in any weather . better then stock

Still want to see how you're gonna tie these into the rear 1/4's, sail panel, and rear pillar b/c that's potentially a ton of work w/ a step roller and step pliers. :D

tear down begins ...

David has some rust we have to deal with , before the 1/4rs are mounted peminantly . Also , have to still make the transition on B and C pillars (I will show this)
so far coming along as expected

fit the windows today ..

I'm thinking I may need to go to Canada. I would love to do this with high clearances 1/4s front and back as well as a hood with scoop for a 2nd gen.

Slacker- Are these panels that I could order? I already have your front high clearance panels on my wish list.

only stock panels are avaliable (these ones) at the moment . As soon as this install is done , we are going to be starting a "hi-clearance" version to match our fronts ..
We already have a 4Runner booked in for the "first install" so there are coming :)

Corey, also consider a deletion of the inset portion normally covered by the rear bumper wings (where those 2 10mm bolts attach the fender wing bracket.

ie: The lower rear 5-6"(?) high by 18"(?) long section. It would really clean up the look for guys running tube bumpers to have a cleaner transition and area less prone to accumulating debris. Heck, for that matter a dogleg panel deletion also where the rear fender meets the rear door at the body seam.

Just thinking aloud here. (3 minute photo-correction hack-job example to see it.)

That is the nice thing with FRP ... you can modify it very easly . We could do that for a customer , but the moulds are already made for the "stock panel" . our Hi clearance panel will most likely have that piece deleted , as it would be more popular with the custom croud .

Slacker, you've got my attention. If you wouldn't mind showing detail of how you bond the pillars together, I'd be grateful.

here we go !!

bonding strips made and installed

These are simply just a flat piece of fiberglass , cut to fit . they are flexable , and easy to install . Epoxied into place , with the epoxy filling all the "air gaps" the panel is ready to install . (just have to fix some rust first)

Willing to handle "those type" of questions I usually have? [Technical Gubbins Stuff.] We can post openly or via PM first.

no problem .. I will answer as best I can ..

the more info. the better , for ALL ..... makes for an easier purchacing decision If one is considering

I'm sitting here thinking about liabilities vs. insurance vs. local/national vehicle regulations. Bonding a panel at what could (in a lawyer's/insurer's eyes) be view as a break-away point is the first question.

When you bond like that to the sail panel, in the event of impact that becomes the stress riser point, correct?

A couple others in my head too, but I want to do a bit of research before asking blindly.

I think you're getting WAY too in depth. If that's a huge concern for you, how much research did you do before mounting your bumper or lifting your 4runner or any other mods for that matter?
