So let me ask you, slacker, what do you do when you're installing a patch in the middle of a panel and there's no seam to clamp it to... rivets, and then grind them down?

no rivets .. it's all in the fitting ..

So do you flange the metal edge and overlap, or just butt the edges together and glass over the seam? I'm going to try and patch my fenders as a stopgap until I can afford to get some sexy from you, and I'm unsure how to go about it.

there is a back flange glued into place , which acts as a backing for both panels . then both panels are V noched and skiffed with filler ..

I wasn't sure if that would work for a long seam, or just on the pillars. Thanks for the insight!

ETA - one more question, when you say v-notched, you mean sloped towards eachother, yes? I assume to make a valley that's easier to fill with body filler?

correct on the V notch .. just like the V looks , angle the sides . This helps with adhesion of the filler and will stop cracking of a"line" if done correctly , should last forever .

This method will work on a long seam as well .. even these fiberglass panels could be cut down and installed at a "long" seam .. The thought is .. why do more bodywork ?

I think you're getting WAY too in depth. If that's a huge concern for you, how much research did you do before mounting your bumper or lifting your 4runner or any other mods for that matter?
