2nd gen engine swap

I have 2 91 T4R. One is stock and my daily driver, the other have a 4" procomp lift and a 3" body on 38x15.5's. My big one has a blown engine and is in need of a swap the swaps im considering are SBC, 4.3L vortec, om617 (mercedes turbo diesel), or a 22re. Is there anyone who has done any of these? I have a few questions about my options with these engines and would love to pick someones brain who has done one of these so i can figure what way i want to go with it thanks

it has the 3.0 but i think its the later 3.0 it has been replaced by someone who owned it before me the computer has 94-95 wrote one it so its probably a boneyard engine. do you know what year they did the slight change to the 2nd gens. my red one has a different bumper grill haedlights and marker lights than my black one, as well as the gauges are a little different
 
Swapping a 22RE would be a waste of time. I love that motor, but the only thing I'd put it INTO would be a Sammy or a really really light buggy.

Why isn't the 3.4 on your list? Starting from a 3.0, that's about as easy as a swap gets, and a significant upgrade.

90-91 (with sealed beam headlights and v6's got the rear spare carrier.)

92-95 (Aero style headlights)


also why isn't the 3RZ-FE on your choice list? its a wonderful engine....

I do agree with KidV, the 3.4 would be easier than the others. and is a pretty descent power-plant it self

I personally take pride in my truck having a Toyota heart rather than it have a chevy 4.3 heart... just a thought.
 
I have just recently heard of the 3.4 swap, and hadn't researched it or really considered it to much. Are the 3.4s very reliable, because thats why i dont want to put a 3.0 back in. I want something a little unique. I had also thought of the lexus V8 swap any thoughts on that. If i went with the 4.3 do i need to pull and keep all the vacuum emission crap to keep it fuel injected.
 
The 3.4 is just as reliable as the 22RE, it's got a great track record. It has none of the head gasket issues of the 3.0. It's also as close to a drop-in swap as you're going to get for a truck with a factory 3VZE. Do some reading, you'll like what you see. The Lexus 1UZ is a great motor if you're up for the swap, it's definitely more complicated.

You can find 8" elockers starting in '96 and up to ... '99? Maybe '00? At some point it wasn't available in the 3rd gen anymore, but I forget which year. You're not likely to find one in a junkyard just trolling, but [MENTION=78895]DeathCougar[/MENTION] is nearish to you and I bet he could help you scrape one up.

thanks ill do some research on the 3.4 if that is what i go with what all do i need from the donor rig besides engine and computer and harness.
 
And how buildable is the 3.4. I know my way around a 22re ive built one before so i know its able to create a lot of power
 
The first few years of the 3.4 also had some head gasket issues so try to find a later one if you go withe the 3.4
 
after some research im narrowing down to either the sbc and the 3.4 so that being said with the 3.4 what else would i need to pull besides the engine, harness, and computer someone on another forum said they had alot of wiring issues but i think that was due to them not getting the right harness so has any one done the 3.4 swap that can shed some light on this:flamethrwoer2:

When i sell engine swaps, here is the list I give people from the donor rig:

Fully assembled Engine with NOTHING cut off or damaged
Harness with body side plug cuts
ECU with body side plug cuts
Battery/Alternator subharness with body plug cut
OBDII Port with 6" wire
PS Pump
Alternator
AC Pump
Air box with all matching intake piping
Evap box with all sensors/piping
Ignitor
Exhaust all the way back to behind the rear O2 sensor
All hoses

Probably a few things I am forgetting, but you get the idea. Get this stuff all from the same rig, and you will save yourself hours of time and lots of money.

\thanks so much thats a big help now do you think the parts list would be the same if i were going to pull a 4.3 from a blazer or a fuel injected 350 minus the fact of i have to buy bell housing adapter and motor mounts and this maybe a stupid question because they do exist what exactly is the ignitor is that like the ignition coil
 
Thanks all for the info i have decided to go with the SBC for the sake of wiring issues that i dont want to worry about having so build thread coming soon thanks again to everyone who gave me advice
