2nd gen Old man emu lift

I just installed a heavy duty Old Man Emu lift with BJ spacers and rear coil spacers. The previous owner was messing with the torsion bar adjuster and I dont know what the stock height of the adjusting bolts were.

Ive searched and some people said (3/4). I adjusted the front to match the rear (1-1/4), but i didnt like the ride quality, and felt like I was going to tip over.

Thanks in advance

You'll get used to it. There is no one correct setting for the torsion bars, because no two sets of bars have fatigued the same amount. Adjust your front bars so that the nose is just barely down compared to the back, that'll help when you've got the back loaded. Two or three days driving like that and it'll feel normal again.

Your ride quality is off because you installed heavy duty springs in the rear - those aren't going to ride soft until you put some weight in the back. If you're not hauling loads, you probably should have gone with the medium setup.

This is how it currently sits with the threads at 1-1/4. With 15 inch wheels and from measuring from the top of the wheel to the bottom of the fender, the front is at 16-3/4 and the rear is at 16

I will be adding front/rear steel plate bumpers, roof rack, and a couple of rear cargo holders.

Thanks for the replies, ill mess around with the adjusting bolts later

Plate bumpers will definitely bring it down a hair, and soften the ride a bit too.

Looks good so far!

Sweet thanks man! Also is there any trick to gain more rear brake line slack without purchasing a new one? I also still need to purchase a panhard drop bracket and a diff drop from 4crawler to fine tune the lift.

Not really, no. Lots of guys use this as an excuse to go braided stainless on their brake lines.

I'm thinking about doing that same setup on my 92, although I will go with the medium duty springs. Looks good.

I have med duty OME springs on mine and it's already a stiff spring. Can't imagine how much rougher the ride is with the heavy duty springs.

Did you also go with the OME shocks? I was considering their setup, but I wasn't sure if their shocks were the way to go or some other combo might be better (Bilstein shocks/OME springs?).

I went with OME med coils, shocks and bj spacers. It rides better than it ever has. I then put plate bumpers on and surprisingly didnt see any difference, still rides great and didn't droop. I also relaxed my sway away torsion bars at that time. My only complaint is that I took it in for alignment after that and now my stearing feels light?

I went with the OME shocks and med duty springs so far. I love the ride now. Took me a few miles to get used to it after replacing the old saggy springs and spongy shocks.
