2nd gen performance chip???

ive got a 1992 sr5 4runner v6. i was wondering if anyone had any feed back about getting a gas saver perormance chip. really not happy with my mpg, but i dont want to sell the thing. please leave any links to cheap chips, or any advice about? thanks

Don't do it! It makes your engine run lean which will kill it. You can't really chip/tune these old runners anyways.

but there are a lot of things that can make the mpg's worse...
fuel filter, plugs, wires, airfilter, AFM.........

It's a 25 year old truck. If mileage is a concern you shouldn't be driving it, to be honest.

I didnt even think there was a performance chip for these things

Hey I had mine tuned for power the old school way(still didnt get a lot) but I agree dont do a chip. Gas mileage should be around 15 in the city anyway. Any less than that and the engine is in top running condition then its tires (pump those things up!)...any more mileage than that its a bonus in my book:jump:

Most (if not all) performance chips are nothing more than snake oil.

Newer cars can sometimes be tuned via ECU software (i.e. Hondata).

In our case, ensuring you have good plugs, wires, distributor, air filter, fuel filter, and timing are as much tuning as you're going to get.

Driving habits are about the only other thing not-mentioned. Yeah, it's obvious...but for me it can make the difference between 11 and 15 mpg city.

Like [MENTION=98735]3rzrunner[/MENTION] mentioned, if you replace/clean certain things like the fuel filter, afm, filter, plugs, wires it will help things. Some people have had some luck adding some stickers to their rigs for an added 20-30hp...so it might be worth a shot for the MPGs too.
