2nd gen- small lift or skid plates/sliders?

Ok guys here is the deal. I have a little bit of money and I'm thinking about doing some upgrades to my stock 4runner (thinking of calling it "money pit". nice right to it, eh?). Anyway this is going to be mainly used for getting to my favorite fishing/hunting spots, plus the occasional wheeling trip. It will spend a fair amount of time on pavement as well. So I can't decide if I would get more benefit from a little lift (or longtravel? don't know much about that) or some beefier skid plates and maybe sliders. I won't be buying new tires for awhile cause it has almost new 31" all terrains on it already. I'm hesitant to buy skid plates and stuff because it isn't THAT rocky around here. But there are enough rocks to do some damage.

I want the most bang for my buck. Someone steer me in the right direction.

Well if there are not that many rock's around then do a mild lift and maybe slider's. Trail Gear slider's are cheap.
 
My experience in wheeling has taught me that while a lift/tires/winch/locker, will get you further down the trail, protection like a skid plate will make sure you get home.
I would definitely look into an oil pan skidplate, I'm new to 4runners so I don't know where to look though, sorry. Sliders would be a good idea too.
May as well wait to lift it when you're gonna need new tires too. Then you'll be able to pick the right lift and tire combo.

Good point about waiting to lift when I need new tires.

Is it dumb to throw a locker in there when I'm only running AT tires? My old 4X4 Blazer would sometimes only spin one rear and one front tire and that always bugged the crap out of me!!! That is why I like the idea of a locker, even if I won't get new tires for awhile.
 
Dang, I like those rock sliders. That might be the next thing I'll do to my truck. Does anyone have a black 95' T4R that has it? I want to get an idea on how it would look with sliders on it.

I like the All Pro Offroad rock slider's better, but they cost a little bit more. I like them better cause the kick out on the rear of the slider.
