Dinardy I see you removed those lovely stripes down the side. I am currently doing the same to mine, what did you use to get the glue off? I can't for the life of me get this crap to break down and come off.

Met up with a few local guys from the forum yesterday. Mostly 5th gens.

3M Adhesive remover worked for me, which took the majority off. When I waxed the truck, I hit the same areas a little heavier with a cutting agent and an electric buffer. That took care of the rest.

(Disclaimer) I did lose about 15hp post pinstripe removal.

Bought this baby for $800, Supposedly has a blown head gasket but I haven't found anything to support this theory.

I'd start with a comp test and then go from there

Do you know what the comp should be?

Depends on how many miles and what altitude your at.

If it has a bad HG, one cylinder (probably #6) will be MUCH lower than the rest of them.

Ya what hyde802 said. They all just need to be close and they should all be above 100 psi I believe.

for a possible blown headgasket. i would do a leak down test. start with number 6 as its most common area of failure. fill/top off radiator with water. leave cap off and bring pressure up on the leak down tester to like 100psi. see if the water raises and bubbles show up. it be very little but should show up in a few seconds if its number 6. than keep going till you do a leak down on all cylinders till you find one that fails. after that. tear down and rebuild. 3.0 are plenty reliable if rebuilt correct. ie machine/pressure test each head. adjust valves accordingly.
every one says a 22re is better than a 3.0 but they also say this after rebuilding their 22re lol. its kinda funny...

Thanks guys, Gonna do the compression test tomorrow morning... Hoping for the best but expecting the worst lol. I was planing on getting a rebuilt motor for it when I bought it anyway. On a side note, has anyone used the rough country 4 inch lift kit? How is it?

I have the Rough Country lift, and so far it's served me just fine. You should also look into the Old Man Emu lifts, and shocks. Much easier to install, and more gentle to your wallet.

You can see what mine looks like in my build thread. Along with the lift I'm running 33" BFG M/T KM2, and a Yukon Grizzly locker in the rear axle.

Hey guys! I've been reading posts off this site for a long time! Figured I'd share my truck.
This is my 1992 hilux surf SSR-G. 2.4L turbo diesel with the 3L head. It's a 5spd and it has the full recaro interior! It's lifted 6 inches (all suspension) and its currently rolling on 35's
