only pic i've got at the moment [pic taken at the dealer]. '95 sr5, 83k miles. working on some "add-ons" or whatever: gonna get some chunky ATs, brush guard, muffler cap, seat covers [seats not in bad shape, just think i might like some], perhaps new dash cover if i can find one [small crack in this one, not a big deal but might replace it if i find one for a good price], whatever else my fiance decides i'm putting on it [lol], etc.

welcome to the forums

I've been away from the site for a few weeks, but I'm back now and I have a few pictures from the weekend. While it wasn't a hard core off road adventure, it was my first real chance to drive the 4Runner in the dirt and get a feel for its capabilities. While it wasn't a rock crawling, mud pit pounding beast, it was respectable in many ways and went a few places the 2002 Jeep Wrangler also in attendance did not go.

Off road pros:
- easy to maneuver (especially compared to my old Ford)
- decent turning radius
- good view of trail obstacles
- not overly tipsy feeling

Off road cons:
- lack of a limited slip differential can be a problem on loose terrain
- while it never hit anything, the gas tank's position had me cringing a few times
- the 3.0 v6 isn't the greatest for power, even in 4-lo with 4.56 gears I was wishing for a tad more torque on some hills
- sway bars seemed to limit both front and rear articulation and caused a wheel off the ground scenario in some situations... compounded by open differentials, you could easily get stuck with wheels up in a cross axle moment.

All in all though for a 20 year old, 100% stock vehicle with about 20% tread remaining on all-season tires it did quite well. I can understand why pre-95 Toyota 4x4s are so popular on the trail. With a straight axle in the front, even deeper gears and/or stacked transfer cases, lockers and some meaty tires I bet this truck would be down right scary good off road.

The 4Runner, the '02 Wrangler and Lady-dog.

Same characters, different view

It's weak, I know.

The rear tire tucks into the fender well enough

The rear axle articulate pretty well

Just enough clearance on break-over (that's my ugly mug behind the wheel)

A good view of my oxidized hood and roof

The obligatory mud evidence picture. I apologize, CA hasn't had a lot of rain since April, and hence there was little mud to be found.

dude thats mad nice! where did u get the front bumper from!? i love it...nice pic! and what size are your tires??

Thanks mate, a few crew have asked about the bar, I'm still researching its builder. I think it came from a small manufacturer in Queensland here in Oz.

I've noticed TJM have started making a simillar design now.
