by the way, you guys were right. i miss the hell out of it. but i dont miss the 3.0 when compared to the 5.6 in the ford that replaced it.

This is my third 4Runner, all 2nd Gen models (I always liked that body style best). This is definitely the wildest one of the bunch, with a Trail-Gear solid axle conversion, and currently finishing up my engine swap to a Chevy 350 V8. I'm in the Black Hills of SD, and looking forward to doing some serious wheeling and exploring once the engine is up to speed. Photo of engine is early in the swap, with many items having been added or removed since. Lift is 4", with 35" BFG Mud T/As, lockers front and rear, and 5.29 gears.

Got mine home... 1992 V6 Auto...
Now that it is in the drive, I will get it all better. It came home running well at idle, but at 3500 RPMs it bogs out. Also missing two tires as they were popped when I picked it up... Any one in Vegas that wants to help, I am all about sharing my time and tools...

Those are Bushwacker Extend-a-fender flares. I was looking for something a bit wider, like those with the cut-outs around the screws, but after much searching, these are all I could come up with for the 2nd Gen.. They DO add a lot to the look of the rig--it looked plain without them.:jump:

From my research beforehand, the pros say the Yota's drivetrain is more than adequate for a stock V8. I don't intend to upgrade the engine (other than the headers, which were necessary to clear the frame), and for the near future, I won't be getting too radical on the rocks until the budget allows for more mods. It should be fine for my plans (but this is not the end of the build--more will follow as funds allow).

Im looking at these same wheels.. but they have 33*12.5 in tires i need a left first of all before geting them

Sorry to hear about your experience with Alpines, Jim. So much depends on which model you had, the wiring used, the amps used, and the mounting locations. I've personally had good experience with them--they're not my first choice, but the ones I had served me well. Those sliders are one of the models I've been considering for my rig, too. Truck looks great! Have fun out there!
