i have a 92 4runner that i just picked up from my father inlaw, i got it yesterday. The tailgate window has never given him any issued untill last week, it stopped rolling down. After i got it, i was messin with the button while driving and it rolled down. I rolled it back up and now its stuck again. (im glad its not stuck rolled down) anyways, whenever i press the button to roll it down, i can hear a click in the tailgate, but the window doesnt move. I took the panel off today and couldnt figure out what was wrong with it. Has anyone had any issued with this before? my first thought was the window motor, but then it rolled down for me that one time. I guess i can still try to replace the motor but i didnt know if yall had any other suggestions

I bought a used 97 and it had the exact same issue. When I took the paneling off, we immediately noticed 2 wires had been severed. Unknown as to whether this happened inadvertently or if the previous owner did it to bypass some electrical issue.

Anyhow, we simply spliced the wires and it works fine now.

Worth checking into before you drop down the $$ for a new motor.

My 92 won't work with the switch in the console, but works with the key in the tailgate.
Try that before you get new motor.

The "lock" button in the console disables the rear window roll-down. Make sure it is "up". Sometimes dirt accumulates around it and prevents it from unlocking?

Anyone run into the problem where the button by the shifter rolls the window down but the rear key won't?

Trying to figure out how to fix that

Having the same issue......however both the window and the wiper are not working? Might that be the same issue? Fuse? Or Relay?

I just recently fixed this, it was road dust accumulation. This truck lives almost exclusively on forest service roads in AZ. Just need to clean the filth out of all mech that controls the window and relube.
