hey yall,
i recently bought my 91 4runner with the stock 22re with 300k+ miles on it for $1k. I was told when i bought it that i will probably need to replace the rings, but after getting a couple of price checks on replacing them and i am wondering if it would be more cost effective to just drop in a new engine since ill be putting on a ton more miles on it for commuting for about 45mins to school and back...
I don't really have the tools to do it myself, nor do i have the expertise to actually do a full engine swap. I'm in the Sacramento area if anyone knows a good reliable mechanic that wouldn't mind doing something like that for a reasonable price...
As for other little stuff that i need to work on, the rear window doesn't always like to come back up or always come back to a fully closed position.
I keep asking around and wondering about the power a my 22re is supposed to have, i understand that its a little 4 banger but i expected a little more Umph especially getting onto the freeways...Would the engine swap fix that or would i need to put some after-market parts on to help?
The next issue that i can think of off the top of my head is my heater fan does not work, when i first bought the truck it barely blew any air out and now it does not do anything at all. I've checked all the fuses under the dash, and none of those are blow. Is there another set of fuses that i didn't see? Oh and the little clock thats next to the stereo doesn't work anymore, wondering if those two are connected to the same issue. Theres a couple spots i the fuse area that have metal connectors but theres no fuses in them and i dont see a clear fuse diagram in my haynes manual for it...
My dome lights dont work, ive replaced the bulbs just for safe measure.
I am not sure if theres anything else that i can think of right now, tho its almost time for bed. If one of the issues needs to be clarified just hollar.
