Dumb question at my older age and experience of 4wd, but I'm in a 2wd 2008 4R right now so here goes:
I have a small deer lease, with a 90 deg turn onto a grassy lane that drops off slightly from the small blacktop. Usually I'm pulling my tiny teardrop camper. When it's time to leave I have to gather up a little steam to make the slight short grade up to the level of the blacktop, turn hard into the shoulder before I actually hit the blacktop, where all is well. Gotta get out and close the gate.
If I lose some steam and need more throttle on the ascent, one wheel will usually start slipping, then the anti skid or anti slip or whatever comes into play, and I feel like I'm slowing down with the chattering etc. The rpm's drop and I barely make it up to the top. So far been lucky, but that's gonna end.
I'm unsure in this situation if I should have the anti-skid button turned on/off or if it even matters? Should I feather the brake pedal too? Seems I've tried it both ways, the last thing I want is to lose momentum. Its a balance of some momentum, but not too much, under control, or I risk blasting into the road, not good either. I need maximum controlled ascent. This is not a slow ascent on hard ground where one wheel spins in gravel etc. This is a short uphill wet grassy two track. If I have a slight slowdown before it's time, its pucker time.
With my experience I could easily handle this without all the auto functions happening at the same time, as I have a good feel for feathering accelerator and brake with both feet.
Until able to get back into 4wd truck, I'm stuck like chuck with this. The 4R SUV is thankfully good with its weight on the rear tires, with the small camper adding more rear tire pressure to ground.
Sorry for this stupid 2wd post, LOL. Any qualified comments appreciated.
