2wd Auto Shifter removal

Ok how in the hell do I remove this thing? I mean like the top grip section? I took the 2 small screws out and can lift it up, and am able to remove the button and large spring, but the O/D button has cabling running through. Can I remove the cable from the back of the O/D switch and reinsert it later? I don't want to ruin it.
I'm trying to get the handle and gear indicator bezel out of the way.

Have to remove whole assembly and/or cut the O/D wire. Its been a while but I am fairy sure I was able to thread the wire out at the base then back to the new 4wd shifter I swapped in.

Trace the 2 cables for the OD switch down to the console. They actually pull out of the harness and you can pull them out. I replaced my OD switch and found that out. So no cutting needed. If I remember correctly, the clip has a white connecter you pop off and then they should pull out.

You have to disconnect the wires at the harness connector at the front of the shifter assembly (pull them out of the plug) and fish it back up through the shifter stalk. The wires do not disconnect from the OD button on the 2WD shifter.
