2wd capability off road

I have a 2wd '08 T4R and do about 95% of my driving on the road, however, I am just seeing what other people with a 2wd T4R have added to their 4runner to make it more capable offroad and more bad snowy weather ready. Any suggestions?

don't drive it down the steep hill in your backyard
especially if it is a pretty long way and near a small creek

AAA won't help you, they will say sorry too far and it is a recovery not a tow

you will wind up with a long run of steel cable and a lot of lost time
