2WD in V8 2006? newbie needs help

I have been looking for a 4runner for a long time, and have tested drive 2 already. meanwhile, I also read t4r.org which has numerous valuable info.
but when I was testing a 2003 V8, there was a 2H mode on the transmission shift; when I was testing drive a 2006 V8, there was a 2L mode on the transmission shift. that confuses me a lot, as far as the info I gained from reading our great forum, the V8 doesnt come with a 2WD mode, which is weird that there is always 2WD option on the ones I was testing drive. I live in Canada tho.
newbie needs some clarification here.

If the 2H and 2L is on the transmission shift, then it does not mean 2wd but rather the first two low gear of the transmission. i.e. your car won't shift past the first 2 gear when engage in this mode.
