Yes, truetrac is Limited Slip.

Install is different. It's not just an easy, slip in thing. It replaces the whole spider gear assembly/diff casing. You have to know what you're doing.

I don't know how to do all of that, so I actually bought my entire Turbo/V6 diff brand new. New 4.56 gears with the truetrac. Took a week or so for assembly and they shipped it to my house. 500 miles on new fluid and light driving/no freeway, then changed to 70W-90 Redline Synthetic at 500 miles.

The diff was $899 (no core) and $299 for Truetrac.

Id recommend not locking up a 2wd daily driver. I daily drove my runner with a lockright 400+ miles per week for a few months. Its a pain. I strongly urge you not to do this. If it was 4wd and your were gonna wheel the heck out of it Id say go for it, but you will be unhappy. Tires chirp, and it clicks and bangs.

As far as it sliding all over the road... This is some sort of myth. If you drive it right its just as stable as it was open. But if you have a lead foot it can get crazy sideways

dude get that synthetic out of there asap...I've heard bad things about Tru-Tracs and Synthetic oils

Not entirely true. I have been a lot of situations one tire only and have been able to move. There's definitely a lot of free wheel spin but you can still move.

If it's a problem, pull the e-brake up a notch or two and it simulates traction, therefor it works.

I was able to achieve this and stop mid air for pics, get out of the car and take pics, then continue on multiple times:

Notice this one I am in reverse, I thought it was cool so I backed up to where it would be a nice pic. Then I drove straight out.

I have been wanting my 2WD to have somewhat 4WD capabilities for the longest time. I too don't want to get another runner because of the attachment I have with this one, plus its brown. I am too in the same situation as OP, I do city driving 99% of the time. I have only been off roading for camping trips and such which is lately rare to never. I live in florida which has very litle areas I can get stuck and alot of pavement, so I was thinking about an lsd thats constantly on and wont click or bang or any of that stuff.Also Having the capability to get myself out of sticky situations like I have been in before.:boink: One other thing, way off topic, but anyone know if eibach makes lowering springs, I know you guys will flame me for wanting to lower it but, it would only be about an inch or so. I think it ill help with highway driving and the center of gravity.:toilet:

I guess i havent updated this thread ever since, but i too bought the detroit truetrac a while back and have been running it daily ever since. In the same situation of 95% on road and 5% off road. Although now i find myself wanting to go out wheeling more because of how much things i can do with the truetrac. It truly amazed me with how well it performs both on and off road.
its completely unnoticeable when driving on pavement, only time would be when i see something i want to go over, like a curb or whatever comes in my way i know i got the capable to go over it with ease and not be embarrased like before with only one wheel spinning.. HAHA
but off road its amazing. i impressed all my buddies with 4wd how far i could follow them without needing any assistance. I have a video from my past weekend trip with the gf and ill post it when i get the chance on a review of this truetrac. Its awesome though, as childofbodom says it works good enough to go with anyone on 4wd trails.

GET THE TRUETRAC! its so quiet and cant even tell its there when driving on pavement. when you start to get off road or do some mall crawling you'll know right off the bat how well it performs. serious its to hard to explain other then just getting it and feeling it for yourself. I had a grin from one ear to the other with how much **** i could do with it.

There is no noise with the truetrac, there would be noise with any of the lockers mentioned before, but for what im doing, i was totally looking in the wrong direction with lockers. They are more useful for those who off road alot and want their truck mainly for that. But on road the LSD is the best option out there.

Yeah, it started out with the vid of you installing your LED tail lights (found it off either this forum or Yotatech or something...a froum haha), and then I noticed that your T4r is 2wd so I had to investigate further. I have a 2000 SR5 2wd myself. I gotta say man, I have mad respect for everything you have done. Especially your base-to- SR5 conversion. Simply sick, my friend. Hopefully I can bring mine up to par with you guys. Just got mine this month and I'm already feeling the mod bug.
