Ok guys here is my problem! My96 has 300k on it and got a slight valve rattle. It only does it during it being under load or uphill.

So here is the problem. Fix the rattle and change timing belt and all the seals and water pump up front? Or i can get a junkyard motor under 80k for 600.00? SO any input will greatly accepted.

Personally I would go with a used motor from a reputable salvage yard. Reseal it, put new t-belt, water pump etc. on and drive it. This is assuming you want to keep your truck for awhile. Parts and machining costs will add up quick to fix it right and you'll still have a bottom end with 300k on it.

I would say get lower mileage motor that is fully checked out.spend the extra time and money if you have to to have it looked over.Jmho

My salvage yard guy knows me real well! Sometimes he calls me for info. I think im getting a really good deal. I have the garage to do the engine swap. He told me he would give me a 6 month warranty. Plus he is in the business for rebuilable wrecks. He has onethat is a trd S/c down there but the S/c is in bad shape. :sobbing:
