was it only in the 3rd gen or did they put it in the 2nd gen too? Also are there a lot of 3rd gen manual 4 runners.. i seem to find a LOt more autos...

Anything with the manual i should be concered about? I cant wait to get mine!

The 3.4 and 2.7 were both new to the 4Runner in 96. Other Toyota models use these engines, one of our members has a 4th gen. from Japan with the 3.4 in it.

The manual was made till 2000 and they stopped the 4 cyl 2.7 and the manual in 2001. They did not sell many manuals because they weren't popular. Americans tend to want a automatics, still they are out there. The only concern I would have on a automatic is how stong is the clutch. I would try to find out if it has been replaced. Of curse they is a concern on every manual transmission, in any kind of car.
