1) I've read around about problems with engine noise... a chugging sound at low RPMs... and seen the recommended solution is to lube the driveshaft(?). However, mine typically only does it when it's cold out and until the engine warms up. Is this an issue that needs addressing?

2) How difficult of a job is it to install leveling spacers (thinking the Daystar 1" Budget Boost - there's a great deal at Amazon)? I'm a noob, but not completely ignorant... is it something I really can do by myself or should I go to a mechanic?

3) Flipping through Toyota's Warranty & Maintenance guide... the V8's spark plugs aren't mentioned until 120,000 miles. Is this right? The V6's spark plugs get a replacement every 30,000. If needed... what type?

Thanks!

Lubing the driveshaft fixes a "bump" felt when you take your foot off the brake from a stop. It's annoying and easy to fix if you've got a grease gun.

For #2 & 3, I know nothing.

1) I think what you are referring to is piston slap, its very common in the V8 when its cold. Driveline clunk is a different and unrelated issue that is easily fixed by lubing the driveshaft as previously mentioned. Piston slap is uncorrectable and is normal.

2) There are tons of write-ups on this subject and for the most part, its very "easy" provided you have a friend and a decent understanding of the steps req'd.

3) Yes, the V8 plugs are good for a 100k b/c they are iridium plated I believe. The V6 plugs are standard, run of the mill which is why they only last 30k. IMHO, you shouldn't be too concerned about the plugs as they last so long on the V8. The big time sensitive component on the the V8 is the timing belt, which needs replacement at 90k and is not generally considered a DIY item. V6 has a timing chain which needs no servicing.
