I looked at Amsoil and liked it but had a challenging time getting it cost/benefit left me with Valvoline not the highest rated but better than the others...........and yes some things are expensive here in Alaska. Anything that weighs a lot like car parts water and beer equals high cost due to shipping costs. other than that housing is cheaper and this week fresh salmon red as a barn right out the river was $7lb and halibut just off the boat was $6lb. nice.

i have 58k on my 06 v6 sport and the only things i have done are:
- regular oil change at 5k
- filters/plugs change at 30k.
i don't tow anything and moved to the bay area from texas in sept. we'll be taking skiing trips to reno about 4-5 time per year from now on but other than that i only use my 4x4 in the rain.
should i be worried about changing my differential oils? i'm planning to do the same thing i did for 30k for 60k and 90k. will do the coolant flush at 100k per the manual. not planning to do the transmission since the manual didn't mention it. i do plan to keep the car for a reasonably long time (maybe 100k-200k miles?) but not probably not any longer than that. what do you guys think? should i be doing more to the car and switching to the synthetics? i used to be a diy guy but got too lazy now so any additional work will be at a shop.....

thanks for the input! maybe i'll change the differential oil at 60k or 100k. anything i should look for regarding signs of failure due to the differential oil? maybe taking longer to engage 4x4? anything else i should add to the list other than differential oil and things i'm doing?

I decided to buy some tools and do the 30,000 mile service myself as others have. I wanted to thank those who contributed to info that has helped me along the process. I have done the following for the first time: replace spark plugs (I lost a little skin on the drivers side, need little Japenese hands to get in thier), lub chassis/perpeller shaft very easy i used 1 gun and changed out the grease. Tonight i am picking up the air filter and air cabin filter for replacement. The air cabin filter is pretty dirty and the air filter is a little dirty but not to bad. I am ordering the union fitting as well for the Rear Diff breather mod. I will do that next weekend as well as change out my fluids in the Differential FR/RR T-Case at the same time. Then change the oil /rotate tires. Here is the service recomendation link for future reference of the intervals.

All and all everything was pretty straight forward. I replaced my air filter last night (it took longer to open the box then to replace the old one) and the air cabin filter (that thing was dirty) i recomend you look at your air cabin filter every 10,000 or so it took about 2 minutes because i was fiddling around. I ordered my Union Fitting it will be here on Wendsday. I will be ready to do my Rear Diff Breather mod and change my Diff and T-case fluids Saturday.

Replaced gear oil in front diff / rear diff / transfer case with 75w-90Mobil 1. Very easy to do. If you have a lift it would be even easier. It is a little tight under the front diff for me with the lower control arm being right their. it was still very easy to do and next time in about a year and a half i hope to have my lift purchased and installed. Making it a little more roomy under their. Oh by the way this gear oil stinks .... The old oil seemed fine. I did not collect any for testing. I also installed my rear diff breather, very easy mod and i am very glad that i did it. I used the union fitting from Toyota, the old cap breather, 3/8 ID Fuel Hose. I extended it to the gas tank.

The air cabin is easy to get to. Just open the glove box. Remove 1 screw on the right connected to the lowering arm pump. Then squeeze the sides of the doors and it will (the side tabs) pop out and open completely. Now inside you will see white plastic clips to the left and right. This is where the filter is squeeze the clips or tabs to them and pull out. Now you should have the filter in it's tray. Replace fiter if needed and reverse directions. Should take about 1 minute. I had a little issue with my door falling back down after i replaced mine. The pump wouldn't release the glove box door slow like it should. I had to squeeze the pump together and it of reset it. I think i was messing around with the pump when i took it out so you this shouldn't happen to anyone. But if it does just squeeze it and then put it back in it's place. Hope that helps...
