brucemoose2 said:Did I read correctly that you fit these tires with no lift and no rubbing? These are super-cheap right now from discounttiredirect. There's a 70 dollar rebate and free shipping (to my zip code, anyway). So you can get 4 brand new tires for $370! I do not have a lift and I don't intend to install one. So I'm curious to see if you had any rubbing. Please let me know.
4runnerfourplay said:Thats correct, I installed these tires with no lift or spacers and the tires did not rub at all. I didnt do any 4-wheeling, I suspect the front tires may rub some if articulating the suspension. But anyways, when i didnt have a lift or spacers there still wasnt any rubbing at all, didnt even trim anything.
Hooah
brucemoose2 said:Yeah, I'm a little nervous about what might happen entering a steep driveway, hopping a curb, etc. I'm not going to offroad the 4Runner, so that shouldn't be a problem. How long did you drive around without the spacers and lift? Did you try backing up while turning sharply, going over any bumps, etc?

Any alternatives? Casual off-raod, no hardware mods done to the truck. Would like to be able to air down.

KD7SMX said:I'm curious why everyone gravitates towards BFG. Is it because of the value? I had Goodyear MT/Rs on my old Blazer and LOVED them; smooth and quiet and nimble on the highway and fantastic traction in the mountains but they are twice the price of BFGs.
I didn't realize tire prices had dropped so much. I'm seriously looking at doing this really soon. I knew I had paid off my credit card for a good reason...
TireRack has BFG Mud-Terrain T/A KM for $99 right now.

Those tires are awesome and I highly recommend them for your part of the country. I did not off-road them though... unless by casual you mean logging roads and limited beach sand driving - which I did plenty of.
KD7SMX said:I would LOVE to get the Revos but 5 of them would still run me about $1000. I just can't do that.

brucemoose2 said:I doubt that, but if that's what you found then ok. I got them from a firestone place and convinced them to price match an online offer. I think I paid 600 mounted, balanced, w/ tax, etc.
Almost any all season tire will likely have better rain traction than a mud tire. Everything is going to be a compromise in one way or another... There's no such thing as a rain/snow/mud/summer/runflat tire.![]()
KD7SMX said:Price I found was based on the tire size being discussed here, 285/70R17 @ $189.00 (each). If that's not a good tire size for my purpose then I'm open to be corrected. You nailed it earlier, by casual I mean occasional beach and lots of logging roads. Sometimes wandering up on to Snoqualmie Pass ski slopes for a little more aggressive off roading but 265/65/17 (my stock size) is still $189 on TireRack.
4runnerfourplay said:With 285's on the stock rim it will most definitely rub the upper control arm up front. Spacers would take care of that but then you will probably rub the inside of the lower part of the wheel well at which point you will need a lift to alleviate that rubbing. One thing that I really like about the BFG MT 255/75/R17 is that the spare tire fits under the truck.
