A few months ago i bought the duratracs that are in my sig. Needless to say i wanna go bigger. I called the place i got them from and they said i could exchange them for $200 for brand new 315/75/16's. Mine have a little over 6K on them.

So what would you guys do? 200 seems well worth it to me.

Hey, if you can fit them, sounds good to me!

Fitting them is another story :)

315s require lots of lift and lots of wheel well work to fit them. I would recommend looking at a 1" body lift and 255/85/R16 tires. They are a very tall 33, and look bigger then they are as well (tall and skinny).

Most people think I am running 35s...

you are gonna need more height in the front and rear for 35's... I fit 35's with 882's, but you need to hammer the hell out of the pinch weld and trim a lot off the front bumper. For the rear just swap out your OMEs for LC coils, 7.5 wraps will clear 35's just fine.

If you want to keep your setup, I'd do at least a 1.5" BL

Dont forget that once i up to 35s ull want to be doing alot of maintenance and upgrading on the 4runner. Not only will tires be changed out but ull want to re-gear and bypass tranny cooler if u havent already.

I have just seen a few people run them.and not.have too much of an issue. When i met up with elton my runner was the same height as his and i believe he has the 7.5 wrap coils. I just want the 35's because i like how it looks. The 4runner isn't fast to begin with so im not worried about it being sluggish.

I ran two sets of 35s on my last 3rd gen trail rig. With stock gears it was slow, like really slow, like cruising in the 60s was pushing it. 80mph would feel like the top speed. (3.4l mind you). You do have to do a lot of cutting as well, but that is the easiest part of the whole process. Like mentioned above, be sure to get a tranny cooler.

Just go straight to 37's :trophy: Might as well put the big sh¡t on there if you have to cut, regear, and lift more.

I wouldn't say the 3.4L is fast but you certainly will not like running 35in tires with stock gears for sure. If you are going to put 35s on it then you should regear. If you are going to regear then just put 5.29s in it and not worry about it. Where are you at in OR? Just curious...I'm from Roseburg area.

My buddy has the 255/85's and they look way smaller than my 285s do.

OP, you could try 305/70/16, thats an actual 33x12.50. If you plan on re-gearing and cutting alot to clear 35's then I say go for it but its a lot of work and lot more wear and tear on your rig.

My 255/85s look bigger than my previous 285/75s did. They vary with brands though. A lot of people ask me if they are 35s too (like Mr. Leary said). Generally, the 255s are a little taller than 285s, but I know BFGs run bigger than most brands.

I had 305/70/16s a while back too and they were 33x12 and ended up being too wide and rubbed really bad. You would almost have to do as much cutting for 305s as you would for 35s. I've never seen a set of 305/75/16s, but they would be the same width and even taller so I would just go 315/75/16 (35s) if you're gonna break out the grinder and sawsall anyways.

I just really like the way the 35's look on these rigs. I've been searching and looking at people who have done it so far so I know it can be done, i just think its a pretty good deal I dont want to pass up.

I've only ever seen one rig with a 255/85 and they are the Super Swamper Trxus MT and they look a lot smaller to me then my 285 DC's do but thats just one brand, like you said, some run small. My 35 BFG's on my 88 truck look like 33s compares to the 35 off brands that I took off.

That was a typo on the 305/75, I meant 305/70. Where were you getting the most rubbing issues when you ran that size? I was interested in running them but not if they're going to be rubbing like crazy!

I think how big the tires look on the truck does depend a lot on A/T vs. M/T, brand, wheel width, how many miles, etc.. I think the 255s fit the look of the 4runner and the Tacoma really nice IMO.

The 305/70/16s were too wide to tuck up inside my rear fenders w/ SR5 flares and stock wheels. The body would sit on the edge of the tire and act like a brake when I would try to stuff them. You'd have to cut maybe .5" or so off that inside lip of the rear fender (which is what you need to do with 35s too). The 305s also rubbed bad in the front on the firewall when I would turn. I hammered the pinch weld and firewall area a lot more than most people w/ 255s or 285s and they still rubbed pretty bad off road even after that. All that annoying rubbing wasn't worth the extra 1" or so width.

In hindsight, I'm glad I did all that hammering because now the only place I can make my truck rub w/ 255s is on the plastic fuel filler hose cover in the inside of the driver's rear fender. But I can only hit that because I have a lot of travel back there.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll just stick with my 285s.

I'm surprised your fuel filler guard hasnt fallen off itself yet, mine came off the first time I went wheeling, along with the rear mud flaps.:happens:

Well.............35's are on! cut the front bumper valence and inner plastic by the pinch weld and hammered the pinch weld. They fit but they're really snug lol. And yes they still rub a little.
