35 MPH Average

I love Average Gas milege readout and Range, but Average Speed is stuck at 35. Even if i drive well over 55 every day. Whats the fix for that? I tried Reset, but nothing happened, still get 35...

As you put more and more miles on your vehicle, it will be harder and harder to change your average.

For example, I live 3 miles from my job. Considering that this short trip is on 30 mph roads with plenty of traffic lights, I probably average about 15 mph if I'm lucky (accounting for the traffic lights)

My 4Runner doesn't even have 2,000 miles on it yet, but it has already been on a 7 1/2 hour trip to Pittsburgh and back, and I was doing about 70-75 mph on the highways. Also, I've been driving every day about 120 miles round trip for a two week training seminar and averaging around 70 mph on the highways. Yet my average speed readout is 33 mph.

The point is that as your mileage goes up, the average will start to stay more constant, regardless of your driving speeds.

Mine has been stuck on 28 for the past 6 months. I just got tired of resetting it all the time.

Mine resets with the reset button. I've had it go as high as 80mph on a long highway trip. Around town, it usually ends up being less than 20mph on a tank of gas.

So is there a real point to having an average speed read out?? I have it on my 4Runner and I think it's completely useless.

could be used for calculations??

If you know the total miles, and the average MPH (if you haven't reset it), you should be able to calculate the number of hours your engine has been running.

For me:

1008/33 = 30.55 hours
This seems about right.. No long trips so far...

It's fun on long trips; make a game out of keeping it as high as possible, while keeping you average fuel economy meter as good as possible
