35"s on 9.5" beadlock wheel???

This might go better under general discsussion and if so Mods please feel free to move it.

I had originally ordered 17x8.5 beadlock wheel for my 3rd gen to run my 35x12.50r17's which really only measure about 11-11.5" wide. But after waiting a week with no sign of my wheels I called up to see what was going on. First off they only have 3 of the wheels I ordered in stock an second they said they would recommend the 17x9.5 instead of the 17x8.5 for my size tire. Seems a little wide in my opinion but they have them in stock and it's the size they recommend. Anyone with experience or input? I've searched the web a bit but it seems everyone has a different opinion on the issue. Please keep in mind this will be my Daily driver and therefore would like to get the best wear an life out of my tires as possible.

Also found this Compare 35x12.50R17 Tires | BFGoodrich Tires which makes me think I'd be on with the 9.5" wide wheel.

I've got the same tire with an 8.5 inch wheel currently. My tires are still less than 1k on the mileage, so I can't comment on tire wear yet, but I can say that I wouldn't want to be any wider on the rim as far as wheel exposure goes. Right now, the tire has just enough of a balloon to keep the wheel somewhat safe against a flat surface, but I've still already thrashed the sides of the rim on rocks.
