3inch OME lift, 285/70R17 on Stock Wheels?

I will be installing my OME 3 inch lift next week and would like to know if anyone has managed to get 285/70R17's (bfg at ko) to fit using the stock (SR5) 17 inch wheels. (2006 SR5) If so, I'm sure more backspacing was needed, how much? Would the spidertrax 1.25 spacers work?

I checked the suspension faq sticky, but it says body mount trim 'might' be needed, I was hoping to see if someone has actually done this already (hopefully without trimming).

Thanks.

I have Goodyear 285/70/17's with my OME lift and Spidertrax but can't recall if they're 1.25 but I think they are. I do get rubbing when stuffed so don't be surprised if/when you do too.

Edit: Don't cheap out in cheap spacers!

Thanks for your input - do you plan on trimming at all? And I just ordered the spidertrax, so no cheaping out!

I trimmed the mudflaps front & rear, trimmed the plastic wheel well liner in front and trimmed an inch or so from the front bumper by the wheel well until I put a Shrockworks bumper on. Been running that way for a year or so and am happy with it.

I'm running the OME lift (no spacer) with 285/70 Duratracs on the stock wheels. I run the Spidertrax spacers.

I think spacers are a must and wouldn't trust cheap ones. I have 20k miles on this setup with zero issues.

The biggest rubbing issue was the front of the front inner fender wells. I simply unbolted them and zip-tied them forward. Other than that, I had to dremel a small section of a body mount and a tiny bit of the inside of the fender flare.

Offroad, my front hasn't had much rubbing. I do still have my front sway-bar on. The rear is what rubs off-road because it's a sold axle but it's not a big deal.

Oh yeah, you'll have to remove the front mud flaps and I trimmed up the rears.

I think it's a great setup. You'll love it!

One more thing, be prepared for your MPG's to take a hit and a noticeable loss of acceleration.

But it'll handle 10x's better, even lifted!

my roommate bought some spacers off ebay for his 3rd gen and one was off center. hahaha. Lesson learned i went with Spidertraxx. Do the body mount chop, cut the very front piece of the inner fenders (the part that hangs down lower than the bumper)

oh that reminds me. Keep in mind if you do cut that part out of the inner fender liners that you should leave the one lower plastic clip that clips it to the bumper or else the liner will get pushed back into the tire on the freeway from wind. I cut mine back anyways and just drilled two holes to zip tie them back to stuff behind them.

In the end you still might get some rubbing on the sway bar when you are tucked. I am going to remove my sway bar, will get better articulation anyways.

Good point, I also had to buy the swaybar relocate kit from ToyTec because the front coil overs were hitting.

Great advice, thanks. I ordered some LR UCA's to install while I'm at it, hopefully that'll reduce a little rubbing and I'll be able to get better aligned so my new rubber won't wear as badly.

In the mail:
OME 3inch lift
Spidertrax spacers
LR UCA's

Coming soon:
BFG AT KO 285/70R17 on SR5 stock wheels

Thanks, again!

The LR UCAs are about the same dimensions as stock. I don't think you will get any difference in tire rub but you will definitely be able to get some nice alignment. It is totally worth it to be able to fix your caster and camber.

I am going to take my sway bar off. It's not that big of a difference. I've driven with it off before when I didn't have my lift and it was actually a smoother ride.

Mine rubs like crazy up front without the front sway bar off-road, but I don't have the full 3" of lift either.

I agree, on the road, it doesn't handle much different.

Hah!
Yeah - right around $4.19 for me right now. Thankfully I have a 2 mile commute to work. It's going to be the trips up to the Sierra's that get me. But I'm used to it since I'm coming from Jeep I built up with 33's and 4.56 gearing.

Where do you rub like crazy? UCA?

Yeah, I removed my sway bar and don't see much difference at all.

Front only? And you didnt feel much difference? After removing my front, it feels like night and day on road.
