I ran 3 quarts of Amsoil MTG 75W-90 manual transmission fluid in my W59 for about 3000 miles. The original fluid in there was very clean, and the Amsoil came out clean as well.
The Amsoil shifted great, but I swapped to Redline to see if it would be any different (not really). I caught the Amsoil in a clean 5qt oil jug.
If it doesn't weird you out to put slightly used oil in your transmission then you can get a super high quality synthetic for free. It's about a $50 value.
