3rd gen 3.6liter v6 in 1st or 2nd gen 4runner

I have read that a lot of different engines will fit in a 1st and 2nd gen 4runner, including some chevy engines.

I am well aware these days of the 3.0v6 recall on the 2nd gen 4runners. I also have been told that the the 3rd gens were NOT recalled. Is this true?
If this is so then can I feel better about the prospects of a 3rd gen 3.4liter v6 over the 3.0v6 as a replacement?

Do some folks on this here forum prefer 3rd gen. 4runners over "classic gen." 4runners. Maybe vice versa.

If so are there any OTHER engines that folks here would recommend for a 1st or 2nd gen 4runner?

Any responses would greatly appreciated!

The 3.4l 5vze swap is fairly well documented. I see a lot of folks do the Chevy smallblock. I've also seen the Toyota 5MGE and 7MGE done frequently, and I saw one fellow post a thread about the Ford 5.0 he put in.

If I were going to swap, it'd be for a supercharged 3.4liter.

Personally I prefer the 1st and 2nd gens strictly due to body style and my personal tastes. Honestly it's the tailgate instead of the lift gate that is my biggest thing...I love that feature. My preferred rig would be a 1st gen w/22re 4 cyl and 5spd manual basically because they are practically bullet proof in reliability and I love the look.

As for the engine, the 3.4 is supposed to be a much better mill all around when compared to the 3.0. It is a rather common swap and you can find a lot of info on it with the search function.

There are a bunch of other swaps that people have done as well. I've read about meredes diesels, chevy small blocks, ford small blocks, nissan diesels, supra motors, celica motors, and the list goes on.

i agree. if your gonna do a v6 swap, the 3.4 wins hands down... i have a new 22re in my 87 and it works fine, but more hp wouldnt be a bad thing. really you could put what ever motor you want in it, im sure it would work, ive seen many people swap in supra motors, lots of chevy 350s, vortec motors, even mercedes and lexus motors... so if ya can find one id grab a lambo or ferrari motor if you can

Before you go about a motor swap ESP to the 3.4 read up about it...the 3.4does have issues with the head also but not as common as the 3.0..

I wouldn't mind having me a VW diesel motor
