HI Folks

This thread inspired me to visit the local salvage yard - not expecting to find anything under 7 feet of white GOLD but low and behold there was a 2000 limited silver runner - I took the center console and the pistons for rear door - will have to re route my rear window switch and ECT button from my 98 console.

But this had an e-locker on it and all tan leather seats w/headrests, driver seat is in fair condition with some "cracking" of the leather but remaining seats are in good to excellent condition IMO, also still left is wood grain center dash pieces in excellent condition and the stereo.

If any body is interested I can pull these items and sell them but only for local pick up because to large to ship

Not many 4Runners in the local yards.

I have been wanting a matching alloy wheel for my spare. The yards around here have few wheels on the vehicles. Usually the vehicle is sitting on old cheap steel wheels. By sitting on I mean not on the car, but under it to raise it off the ground. CL is not good around here either.

Do you guys see alloy wheels in the pull a part yards?

Which alloys are you running?

I found and bought the unicorn. The black sr5 front mud flaps at a local pick and pull. They are on my 4runner and will not be coming off. Around here 3rd gens in wrecking b yards are hard to come by in any condition.

The 2000 limited I show today has the alloy wheels on it, only saw 1 because other 3 were buried

Alas, none of the salvage yards around here carry 3rd Gen 4Runners. They have too much value so the auto dismantlers get 'em first and mark up all the parts.

I just found 3 of those this past weekend. If they would have had the 4th I would have gotten the set. I bet they are gone now. Long ways to ship though.

Check out car-part.com sometimes you can find decent deals through there. I just hate that they arent u-pull yards so they tend to be more expensive.

i agree. i never see 4runners in pick n pull yards in my area. this may be cuz i still see a lot of them running on the road.

I have to admit I enjoy the treasure hunt in the self serve yards. The only problem is 3rd gen 4Runners and 1st gen Tacomas are hard to come by around here!

Today I scored a rear wiper arm for my 3rd gen. Not a huge find by any means but still nice for $3.00. Mine must be corroded at the pivot pint because it doesn't have very much "spring" to it so it just barely rubs the glass in a few locations. It is basically useless. I also grabbed a few items off of a 2nd gen 4Runner. I grabbed the license plate bracket off of a factory swing out. I grabbed this just in case I ever decide to do an aftermarket swing out tire carrier on my Tacoma. I think it will look pretty clean after some paint. I also scored a dome light/rearview mirror combo off of the same 2nd gen 4Runner. I plan to install it into my regular cab '96 Tacoma, perfect color match even. I pulled my factory one off to inspect and it looks like a bolt in and go affair even with the two additional screws. This will be a huge upgrade from the single bulb.

I also scored a shelving unit for a whole $30 bucks. It came out of a 1998 Chevy cargo van but fits nicely in my shop for storing junkyard parts, the cycle continues...

Aw, hell. Here in Nashville if we get a 4runner into one of the pull it yards, it's picked clean within 24 hours. Must be a jawa settlement nearby or something.

Here in MN, we're lucky if we get 1 in the yard, it gets picked clean in a couple days, and then the rest just sits there for months...

I think you're going to the wrong ones. I just got a sport hood from a salvage yard up near hinckley and it also had a cargo cover too. I've been to a yard where they had 3 sitting plus a couple landcruisers. There's also a guy in lakeville who works on landcruisers and has 7 sitting there.

Not very many 3rd gens hit the PnP type yards around here. I think they sell for too much in the insurance auctions.

I saw a fairly clean black 01 in the yards. This is what the driver's side brake looked like:

And the passenger side? Even worse.

Might be related to the smashed in front? Heh, I can't imagine how someone could keep using the brakes like that for so long. The sound had to be horrible. But think of the money they saved by not fixing it!

Since my first post I've found a couple more awesome parts at the junkyards, I got a set of OEM SR5 front mudflaps a couple weeks ago, and a few months ago picked up a Little Passengers aftermarket 3rd row seat from a 3rd gen.

If you guys are looking for anything in particular, this yard is 10 minutes from me. I was in there 2 weeks ago and they had 250 Toyota's in there(I asked the guy). They have practically EVERYTHING! If they can't ship it then maybe I can help.
