3rd Gen. Brake Rotors

I found a really great Toyota mechanic here in my area. I brought him my '00 T4R to get the wobbly brakes fixed. I told him that I knew this model had a reputation for warping rotors. He agreed and said that its a problem on other models from that period, too. When I asked about a more lasting fix, he explained that the problem is not in the design, but the metallurgy. He said that over time he realized that Chinese rotors warped, but Bosch rotors did not; owing to superior quality steel. He said that he only uses Bosch rotors now and that he's not had one come back warped yet. I don't know if this is BS, but so far my 4Runner is steering and braking like its brand new. I guess parts are not always the same...

The factory Toyota rotors (from reading other's experiences) are the best replacement for a factory setup.

When you want real stopping power and reliability then you go for the Tundra swap. I used all Duralast parts and have no issues to report for over a year now.

Brake pads & rotors question....

This is a repeat post since I haven't had any replies to my question in the "Brake Rotor" forum.

Question for ya'll: need to put new rotors and pads on my 1996 T4R SR5 - manual 4x4, are the rotors I've posted the link from amazon.com a good choice?
No build ups, just a straight rig - for now.

I'm looking at putting the Akebono, Bendix, EBC, or Centrics pads on with the new rotors.

Any recommendations, warnings, or/and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

i used brembos and Akebono in the front.. 3k miles and no issues. many on here have gone with stock caliper size and brembos without an issue. but if you plan to tow, add lots of weight from bumpers I would spend the cash and upgrade, or as a once and done.

Tundra brakes upgrade. Do it. You won't regret it.

A lot of people recommend the tundra brake swap even though we see that you are trying to stay stock. Reason being: the swap should be a no brainer and it really is that much better over stock. Even if you find rotors that won't warp and like your brakes heating and burning up while you're on your way home from the mountains, the tundra brakes have awesome stopping power and makes me feel a lot safer in my truck. I've found myself stopping at more yellow lights just for fun haha. try to find someone with tundra brakes in your area that will let you drive his truck and you'll see how much better it feels. if you're not convinced, spend the money on stock parts. i haven't heard about anyone regretting the brake swap
