3rd gen catback exhaust vs muffler delete

Hey as the title states I'm deciding on whether I should buy a catback exhaust or just have a muffler delete and have it straight piped after the cat to its stock location
What are the pros and cons of both and which sounds better
And if I go catback, what do you recommend since I'm running stock engine on stock intake (I might later upgrade to a K&N CAI)

Is this for a 3.4 L v6?
 
You'll get sick of a muffler delete before you leave the parking lot of the exhaust shop. I vote for just tossing a Magnaflow or similar muffler in place of your current muffler. These trucks sound great opened up a bit.

im putting that muffler on that you gave to kevin, still have both cats on though.
 
lol who welded on this, it looks like a toddler with a hot glue gun had a go at it. also this thing is so small and light compared to the oem.

Straight piped sounds amazing! I ran it on mine for a couple weeks before I got tired of it/ didn't want to get pulled over.

The 2nd best sounding (cheap) exhaust is a thrush welded muffler. It is a $30 Chinese Flowmaster 40 copy. It sounds amazing and is not too loud if you have an automatic transmission. It does make you loose power however.


Obviously, you can make it sound really good with headers, high flow cat, and an expensive muffler, but it's not worth is IMO.




Currently, I'm running a stock replacement by Walker and it's alright.

I know this is an older post, and the muffler above I ran for many years. Now, this newer Gibson is another great option and it's a quieter option, which sounds just like the TRD option used to sound like, but at a much better price.

It's a nice smooth quality sound with not being loud. I've had my truck for over 20 years and have heard EVERY single exhaust just about. Back in the day, when TRD made exhausts for this truck (they didn't make them, they would private label companies to make them) if you ever heard any, sounds similar to that tone, which again, not loud but a quality throaty sound. If anything, any other aftermarket exhaust would be louder. The factory system is too quiet, whisper quiet with no tone at all. This just makes it how it should have been originally.
