Ok. So my runner has flowmaster 40 and it has started cracking and sounds like crap. Well the cat went out the week and makes a clunking rattle sound. Went to a local shop. He quoted me $400 new cat and flowmaster welded and installed. Does that sound like a good deal? Or should I try and find a stock used cat?

That's pretty good, but obviously with that price he's going to put an aftermarket cat in there. Personally, I wouldn't pay the premium for a new OEM cat on mine, I would gut it before that happens. But if you are required to have it and don't want to risk the aftermarket cat, you could always try your luck at a junkyard.

Yeah. I know at that price it's aftermarket. The ole man said it should last the life of the 4runner.

I’ve never had issues with Aftermarket cats on a vehicle vs OEM. $400 installed is a good deal! OEM cat alone would run you double that not including the flow master exhaust

yep, that's a good deal for it all installed and welded. was quoted much much more for an oem cat installed for my miata after I ruined it by dodging misfires and driving it for two weeks. lesson learned, don't do that. all over a loose sparkplug too.

only have two years left before '96 runners will be exempt from emissions testing in tx
