I want to find a "hidden" location to install an amp with a relatively small footprint. Here's an idea (from a 4th gen) I'd like to imitate in my 3rd gen:



I'd like to know how much space is behind the rear panel. I'm willing to part with the storage compartment to make this happen. Has anyone does this before? Pics?

There have been alot of those, but things to consider are, the limited acces you will have after, the heat movement, and how big the amp is..

If the amp is "longer" you can mount horizontally..

what kind of amp are you looking to mount in there?

I'm looking to mount a "long" 4 channel amp with rough dimensions of 11x2.5x7. I'm not concerned about ease of accessiblity. I usually tune it and forget it. As for the heat, I'll willing to experiment. From what you said, I should be able to mount vertically, correct? I'm just ensuring this is plausible before I rip apart my truck...again.

edit: By the way, it's a Sony ES from the early 90s. Old school durability, modern features (well, crossovers) and priced below $50 on Ebay.

Here is what I have going on.

JL 300/4 & 500/1 and 1.5 Farad Cap.

I'm in Arizona and so far no heat issue... but I image if I play it loud for a long period during a 100+ degree day I may have an issue.

In the rear wheel well there is a vent (right below where the CAP is) to the outside, so I suspect there is some air movement. I suspect I may have to add a fan to help with air movement, but so far its been ok.

This location does suck for making adjustments... but usually once you dial it in your good for the life of the install.
