Hello,
It seems the general consensus here on the forum is to remove the running boards. Currently, mine are still installed due to my girlfriend being 5'2". I've considered removing the boards, if not to just see how the truck looks without.
My question being, what do you all use as a replacement to shield rocks/debris from coming up and chipping the rocker panel area? There are mud flaps in the rear, do they make those for the front as well (OEM)? I know Tacoma's have front mud flaps, would those work on the 4r? Sliders are another option, thought I don't think they would do as good of a job as the running boards, simply due to their design. Also, they are expensive and I currently just don't do enough hardcore offroading to justify removing free running boards and putting on purchased sliders.
As of now, I think this issue is keeping me from removing the running boards. If I had the peace of mind that mud flaps in the front would provide, I would be more open to removing said boards.....IF I can get the old lady on board with it.
