3rd Gen Phone Mounting Solutions

I use this. It's inexpensive, it's small, it works and you can get it on Amazon with Prime for $15. It holds up my Zte Zmax Pro without any problems — which is bigger and heavier than an iPhone 7 plus. It's never fallen off since I've had it.



I have a clear case on my phone so you can see the magnet on the inside back of the phone. Obviously this would not be visible on normal cases. I personally don't care if it's visible. I've since trimmed off that little plastic protective thingy that you can see on the side between the magnet and the phone. Looks clean now.

I used a Panavise dash mount combined with the Scosche magnet. The magnet is the same as the one that StreetCreeper used, held to the Panavise with a small nut/bolt. It provides a nice and sturdy mounting point with the convenience of easy removal with the magnet.

Just installed mine this morning. I love the placement and direction of it. I used Rare Earth Magnets (two stacked on top of each other on the mount and one in the cover of the phone. With the magnet in the phone cover, you can stick your phone to things also. The magnet is a tad thick for the phone cover though, but I didn't have a thin piece of metal to slip in there.

What a great thread! this is something im very adamant about! ive had many mounts in all my cars.

Scosche suction cup mount works best IMO, very strong magnet and its fully adjustable plus you can relocate it. Makes for an easy solution. No fiddling with clamps or clips of any sort.

So I made backing plates with threaded holes out of some aluminum flat stock (obviously with the same centers as the mount). One side has two sided tape, so when you drill the holes in the dash bezel, you line everything up and bolt it together from the outside, the backing plates stick to the back of the bezel, then the backing plates just stay stuck to the back of the bezel when/if you need to remove the mount. Basically the mount and backing plate sandwich the Dash Bezel between.

Ive been driving around for the last couple days using the mount with the large Xgrip and my fairly bulky phone every chance I get just to see if there are any problems or last minute changes to address, so far it seems pretty solid

I use Steelie Ball similar to the nochoice. Has multiple different mounting accessories. Makes mounting and dismounting frustration free.

My clock don't work so I put the Steelie Ball in front of it. Seems like the perfect spot... and it does not block AC vents.

Did you have to trim the bezel surround around the panavise so that the bottom clips clipped in?

I kind of tried to replicate spikerengineering’s mount (it really is a great design!). I made mine super sturdy and it holds my scangauge + my phone. There is a square washer inside the handle that gives it additional support. I used a ram adjustable mount, holds my iPhone with an otter box case very sturdy.

I picked up this little mount from Amazon on Black Friday. It wirelessly charges the phone which is pretty convenient and has a motor inside which contracts the arms to hold the phone securely in place. The only thing I'm not sure about it how the suction cup will perform once the truck is bouncing around off-road but after a couple of weeks of street driving, its still hanging in there so we'll see...
